Windows 10
Microsoft will release Windows 10 on July 29. I haven’t tried this version of the operating system yet, but am really looking forward to checking it out. I don’t generally rush to upgrade from one version of software to another. This is an instance where if you’re going to upgrade you’re going to want to consider doing it early. Before I tell you why I want to share a few things with you.
Here are my top five really exciting things (so far, before I’ve even tried it hands on) about Windows 10.

  • The Start menu is coming back! This excites me!
  • Cortana, the world’s most personal digital assistant is now available on the PC (and all of your Windows devices). Now on the PC, you can ask her to find files for you, send an email on your behalf, turn on your music, pull up photos, find apps and more.
  • Microsoft Edge: The new browser for Windows 10, lets you write on the web with built-in note taking, sharing and integration with Cortana. Plus there’s a reading pane for no distractions.
  • Your games, friends, achievements and more will follow you across Xbox One and Windows 10 devices. Xbox Live is built into Windows 10 giving you access to the greatest gaming community in the world no matter where you are. Windows 10 extends the Xbox experience with game streaming. Play your Xbox One games on a desktop, laptop, or tablet in your home on your local Wi-Fi.
  • Windows 10 Home users will no longer have to worry about frequently doing system updates, the operating system will handle them all automatically.

Don’t those things sound exciting!
Wondering if your computer can handle the upgrade to Windows 10? Here’s the requirements.

  • Latest OS: Make sure you are running the latest version either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.
  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS
  • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
  • Display: 1024×600

Ready to upgrade? Do it. You might even be able to do it for free. That’s right, free!
For the first time ever, you can get the upgrade for free! The Windows 10 Upgrade Offer is valid for qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices, including devices you already own! That offer won’t last forever though, which is why you might want to hurry. There are going to be some customers that might not qualify for the free upgrade. Maybe because your current system isn’t quite current enough. If you happen to be one of those people, don’t worry. Windows 10 Home will be available as a purchase, with a price of $119.
Microsoft put together a brief video that better explains how to reserve and upgrade to Windows 10. Check it out.

Do you rush to upgrade software or do you prefer to wait a bit?

  1. thanks for the info. I am not on windows, but might be when I get a new laptop later this year 🙂

  2. Funny that I see this post today because I noticed earlier a strange new icon in the bottom right of my computer screen and it says “Get Windows 10”. How uncanny is that?

  3. I just got used to Windows 8! I’m not sure I’m ready for windows 10 already! lol. My Bro-in-law has been dying for windows 10 to come out. He says it is going to rock! And he is my computer guru, so I always listen to him. 🙂

  4. Thank you so much for sharing. I am not a techie person and heard about windows 10 just the other day. May have to check it out.

  5. I am a diehard Windows fan, I have always used it and always will. I am anxious to see the new upgrade.

  6. I quickly read the title and saw ten windows–something I actually need in this old house (actually 13). i got so excited then continued reading on. I must check into this for my travel laptop which needs an upgrade.

  7. It’s great that they’ll let you sign up to get the upgrade, but I feel like a lot of people will choose to wait a few days or even weeks, in case they have any issues to work out. I can’t believe how many versions they’ve had!
