My family and I have been on our annual camping trip in upstate New York. Each year we go to the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen. Today’s race never started. They had introduced the drivers and sung the anthems and were getting ready to start the race when bad weather set in. Now for anyone that hasn’t been to Watkins Glen during race week, it almost always rains some. This year, for the first time ever race fans were advised to seek shelter due to the dangerous thunderstorms. We actually had a pretty good parking spot so when the thunder and lightning started we went to the car, which we all agreed would be more comfortable than standing under the bleachers with a couple thousand other people. We sat in the truck joking and talking and eventually the race was postponed.
We made our way back to the campground. We had some dinner and then an ice cream cake that my brother had gotten to celebrate my 43rd birthday. We laughed a lot out there around the campfire tonight. The race is supposed to start tomorrow at 12 noon. The forecast is calling for rain again. Both my brother and I need to leave tomorrow so there’s an chance we’ll miss the race if it’s raining again. But that’s ok because we had a great time spending time together as a family.

  1. Happy Birthday again though a trifle late.
Everyone got to see the whole race today so you all should be happy. Especially your bro–Stewart won.
