Indoor Activities To Help Your Pet Beat The Summer Heat - Wellness® CORE® RawRev™ #RawRevolution (sponsored)

I am being compensated to help share information about the Wellness® CORE® RawRev™ raw food dog food but Mom Knows It All only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Well, we made it through the 4th of July weekend. Summer is well under way here at the Jersey shore. Traffic is extremely unpleasant, as are the high temps and humidity. Some folks don’t realize that if we humans are uncomfortable in heat and humidity, our pets likely are as well.  When the weather and air quality is like this I spend most of my leisure time indoors. The same applies for Dobby. When it’s very hot or humid I keep the amount of gallavanting he does in the yard down to a minimum. Of course, this means he’s inside more, which is far less exciting for him. As such, its very important that I find ways to keep him from getting bored. I’ve been using Wellness® CORE RawRev™ lately to help me accomplish this task.

You may recall what Wellness® CORE RawRev™ is from my recent post. Wellness® CORE RawRev is a new dog food that makes raw feeding easy and safe. It’s a high-protein, 100% grain-free kibble that is combined with 100% freeze dried raw meat pieces, creating a tasty, high protein, nutrient-rich meal with everything your dog needs to thrive from the core. Food high in protein help promote lean body mass and muscle tone. Nutrients Glucosamine and Chondroitin serve to develop strong joints.
Good nutrition is always important, as is exercise. Obviously if a pet is inside and it’s extremely hot outside they won’t be out there exerting themselves during play. Since they aren’t getting the amount of activity they usually get and need, it’s very important that we provide enrichment activities for our pet while they are inside. This will help keep your pet busy and help prevent them from getting bored as quickly. Fun indoor activities will hold their interest and keep their mind active when it’s too ht to play outside. Here are a few of Dobby’s favorite ways to stay busy on a hot summer day.

Play the shell game
To play the shell game with your dog, place a treat under one of three cups. I use one of the raw pieces of RawRev when we play this because Doby absolutely loves them. Once you’ve placed the piece of food, shuffle the cups around and ask your dog to find the treat.

Stuff a toy
Take a large raw piece of RawRev and hide it inside a toy like a Kong. Give it to your dog and they’ll stay busy trying to get it out of there.

Play tug o war
This is a game that I’d be willing to bet every dog owner has already played at some time. Give one end of a sturdy long(ish) toy to our dog. You hold the other end. All you’ll have to do is grab it or tug it once and your dog will join right in and start tugging.
Learn or practice commands
Reward your dog with a piece of RawRev once he starts learning a new command or mastering one that you’ve been working on.
Incorporate familiar commands into games
Remember playing hide and seek as a child? You can play it now as an adult with your dog! As long as your dog can stay for a half a minute or so you can play this game. Reward the dog with a piece of RawRev when he finds you.

Have some ice cream
Just kidding. Offer your dog a new toy. I found some ice cream shaped toys in the clearance rack at PetSmart while I was picking up some more RawRev. Dobby has been enjoying them almost as much as you and I enjoy real ice cream!
These are just five of the many ways that you can help leep your dog engaged while indoors. Three of the five don’t cost anything other than food you already buy. The remaining two are quite affordable, just check the toy clearance bin at PetSmart when you’re shopping for your pet food and/or supplies.

  1. This sounds perfect for my fur babies! I am going to have to pick some of this up and see how it goes with them.

  2. Oh, these are fun ideas! Here in the southwest, there are days when the dogs have to just go out, do their business, and get back in before they melt. And they’re just like kids. They get BORED.

  3. My dogs love looking for treats in their Kong toys. It definitely wears them out running through the house looking for it. We fill them up and then hide them. The dogs love it!

  4. Wellness looks like a great brand of dog food. We are thinking of getting a new dog. I will have to start her on this brand. It is so important to feed them a good quality food.

  5. It’s been very hot lately and it’s definitely nice to give the dogs ways to be active indoors. Teaching them some new commands is a wonderful idea.

  6. I love your dog’s smile in the first pic! I need to find this for my dog. As he gets older he needs a better food!

  7. A hot pug is not a happy pug. It’s so hot that she needs to spend all of her time inside. These are great ideas. I think some yummy treats and new toys would be a great way to keep busy.

  8. Fun ideas! It’s been pretty hot here this summer, so our little Boston Terrier hasn’t been out much in the sun. Thanks for the indoor activity ideas for dogs, we’ll have to check these out!

  9. I have to check this food out! I haven’t seen it in stores near me yet, but think my dogs would benefit from it!
