#OneForOne Tom's Shoes
Anyone that knows me knows that I’m not afraid to support a cause. I’ve discussed child hunger several times on my food blog, From Val’s Kitchen. It absolutely breaks my heart. When I think of children I’d like to envision happy, smiling, healthy children having fun and living life. It saddens me to think of children that do without some of the most basic things like shoes because of poverty.
A number of years ago I learned about Tom’s Shoes. Tom’s had a campaign where if you bought a pair of their shoes, they’d send a pair of their shoes to a child in need in a foreign country. Simple concept. One for one. Well, times they are a changing. Tom’s has recently announced that their One For One Campaign will now also help needy children here in the US as well. Tom’s is partnering with organizations here at home such as Save The Children, and is committed to donating at least 1 million shoes to children in need right here at home in the US by the end of 2014. A total of 35 states here in the US will be included in the program. Three states will also be a part of the Gift Of Sight program formed with Helen Keller International, where when you buy eyewear Tom gives another pair of eyewear.

Back in the day Tom’s had a somewhat limited selection. Boy was I surprised when I saw how many different styles of shoes that they offer now. Knowing I could buy a nice looking pair of shoes that would directly help a child in need is a good feeling. And I can only imagine how good that child will feel when they receive their much needed shoes, which could be sports shoes, unisex canvas slip-ons, or winter boots.

This is a short video that, if you’re anything like me, will tug at your heart strings.

I think that Tom’s commitment here in the US is fantastic. I love the idea of making sure that a child gets what they need. I haven’t bought a pair yet but am planning on doing so in the near future. Have you, or will you, support the #OneForOne campaign now that it’s here in the US?
