The View – Mothering, Smothering, Bullying And The Karate Kid

ABC Daytime records in my house for four hours a day. The View is one of the shows that records during that time. My favorite thing about The View is that the show touches on many topics. I also enjoy the hosts conversations, which I find to be personable and at times quite humorous.
Today’s episode of The View was an encore presentation but one that I’d missed.
The show started out talking about bullying.  Sherri said that kids don’t discuss bullying with their parents. She’s right. It stinks but it’s true. Bullying is a problem that seems to be growing. My oldest son has been bullied and did not mention it at first.  I found out about it on my own. Have any of your children had a problem? Did they tell you about it?
From bullying the topic moved to raising children and child safety. The hosts were discussing mothering and how close is too close to watch over your children. I call it the mothering vs smothering discussion, I’ve had it numerous times myself. Joy cracks me up. On discussing child safety and watching children too close especially she said “my kid climbed out the window and left the premises on day”. Whoopi admitted that she chose not to completely childproof her home with the hopes that it would teach her child. Her story about the drawer was cute but I personally disagreed with her choice. Maybe that’s because it just wouldn’t work in my home, I don’t know.
ABC. I get needing to cover sponsor’s material but the Listerine Healthy Mouth cam made me a bit dizzy. I almost needed one of those bags that the audience was receiving to be sick in from the motion.
Today’s guests were Karate Kid stars Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Jaden Smith is cute but he looked like he was wearing boots big enough to be his father’s. I don’t know why but I expected him to be better dressed. Jackie Chan has been making movies for a LONG time! I haven’t seen the movie but the scenes they showed looked pretty good. I love the way that the hosts
Sherri looked great, her striped outfit was slimming and flattering. Whoopi looked comfy and casual as usual, I wish her shirts weren’t quite so loose. Elisabeth looked well put together, as usual. Joy was all in black, a bit too serious for her personality I thought.
Today they had a guest speaker Kirsten Kemp Becker on the housing market saying the market was bouncing back and that there were some good buys. I don’t know the demographic stats of The View’s audience but why in the world did they feature all expensive homes, with one exception at $379k? I’m not saying the homes didn’t look nice, they did. I’m saying I think the segment just didn’t fit well. I’ve always considered The View to have a bit of something for everyone but I didn’t find that case with this segment.
The show wrapped with a fashion segment on how to buy trendy items for less. I have personally seen some of the bargains available at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s and I’m sure those that haven’t appreciated the segment.
