The Father’s Love is a movie put out by lovelight pictures. I watched it recently with my 15 year old daughter. It runs 82 minutes and is directed by a first time director, Sharon Kon. The Father’s Love tells the story of a young woman, Sarah, who meets the man of her dreams and learns some pretty tough lessons about love and forgiveness.
The movie is set in New York City and Sarah is pursuing her love of film making when she meets Reece, who seems to be the one and only man for her. Reece is charming, wealthy and handsome…what more could Sarah want?
Sarah has deep hurts from her past and has turned her back on a relationship with God because of her hurts and past experiences. She has a close friend who invites her to church, but Sarah has no interest.
This movie explore some very deep emotions and circumstances and I wouldn’t watch it with younger children because of that. It is not rated, but Sarah is sexually active and there is a scene with her in bed with a man, nothing is explicitly shown at all, but you know why she is there and that she is not wearing clothes, even if you don’t actually see anything.
I am very careful about what I allow my 15 year old daughter to watch and I was really glad we watched this movie! I think it show more honestly what is more likely to happen to young women who are not careful in relationships and make poor choices, don’t see warning signs or are only thinking with their heart. Sarah goes through an absolutely heart breaking situation where she is betrayed and hurt beyond what she feels she can handle. I think many movies romanticize love and don’t show the heart breaks that often occur in the depth that this one does. It was hard to watch, you really feel her pain.
Sarah has a journey to take, one of forgiveness and close examination of past relationships. There are no easy fixes and I like that the movie didn’t make everything all rosy and perfect once Sarah makes some good choices.
What I didn’t like and I imagine some people will not continue watching because of this, was that the different sections of the movie are separated by these words super-imposed over the scenes: BLISS, BLISS? BLISS! It makes it feel like a poor quality movie and I really wasn’t expecting it to be good when we first saw those words! But, that was really the only thing different about it that I didn’t like.
This movie was great for discussing relationships with my daughter and how we can be more aware of moving forward in a relationship and warning signs. My daughter had some great insights on seeing people she knows already moving too fast and getting hurt in the process.

Hmmm. I never heard of this movie, but it sounds like something I would like. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. I agree with you on the “BLISS” though. That is odd. But not a deal-breaker!

This sounds like a really good movie for parents to watch with teens. It’s important for kids to know what to look out for in a relationship and what some things they should look for instead are! It can save a lot of heartbreak. The bliss thing sounds kind of odd though.
I haven’t heard of this one but have a 14 year old daughter who might benefit from watching it. Will have to keep my eye out for it!
