I thought this was going to be a “cute” movie about fairies and elves. It was so much more. I really enjoyed this movie, and personally found it to be more fitting for teens and adults than young children. The soundtrack consists of songs that I loved growing up. Mary Ann is a princess fairy. When she discovers her fiance Roland cheating on her on their wedding day she breaks off the engagement. What she doesn’t know is that Roland was only marrying her for her family’s power and to get to the throne. Mary Ann’s younger sister winds up captured and taken to the Dark Kingdom where she is held prisoner by their king. Mary Ann is not the only prisoner in the Dark Kingdom, the Sugar Plum Fairy is also captive there. King Bog didn’t want any more people falling in love, so by locking her up she couldn’t create love potions. This movie is just plain fun to watch. It serves as a great reminder that beauty is more than just physical appearance, and that love turns up in unexpected places.
