This book is such a cute book! It is a very unique look at a Dad who some people would say isn’t a good Dad because he can’t do “Dad” things like mow the lawn, get the kids to school on time, etc. But what he is good at are the things that really matter, loving the kids and making memories with them! I think kids will love this different look at what makes a good parent! The illustrations are engaging and fun to look at and the storyline is perfect…even if Dad isn’t!

This is a wonderful story that deals with a couple of deep issues. It is aimed at middle school students, although I have to say, I really enjoyed it myself! Solo Hahn is named for the action hero, Han Solo. He has always been a great student and has never been in any trouble until he tries to avenge his kitten’s death. He gets 8 weeks of community service at a raptor center. Kids will relate to the feelings of fear and insecurity that Solo feels when his parents move him to another state and seem to change into people he doesn’t recognize. This book deals with the subjects of depression and suicide. I would probably read it first if I had a child that wanted to read it and then maybe read it together or discuss each chapter with my child. Kids need to know about depression and suicide, and controlling how they are exposed to it by reading a great book like this one is a wonderful opening to good conversations with your child.
These are some great books to close out summer with! They can all be purchased at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Indies.
