If you’ve been read Mom Knows It All for a while then you know my youngest son is a huge fan of Thomas & Friends. It’s his favorite show and his favorite toy. Well, later today, there will be a whole bunch more toys for kids like my son to collect. Here’s why.
On February 8th at 1pm, HIT Entertainment and Toys “R” Us Time Square will be hosting a Thomas & Friends Play Date where kids will have the exciting opportunity to play with the newly launched Thomas Wooden Railway™, meet Sir Topham Hatt, controller of the railway on the Island of Sodor, and participate in a story time with Sir Topham Hatt. There will also be fun giveaways for the first 250 fans that arrive at the store.
The new Thomas Wooden Railway line from Fisher-Price will debut with 85 SKUs of engines, destinations, and track sets with additional product continually being introduced. The Thomas Wooden Railway is often a first entry point for children into the world of Thomas & Friends. For more than 65 years, children have enjoyed the adventures of Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends on the Island of Sodor through stories and Thomas toys powered by children’s own imagination. The Thomas story began when the Rev. W. Awdry created a fable about a cheeky blue engine named ‘Thomas’ on the fictional Island of Sodor and whittled a wooden train to entertain his young son. The introduction of Thomas Wooden Railway is also a journey that takes Fisher-Price back to its roots—which started 83 years ago with wood toys. In 1931, in East Aurora, New York, children’s book writer and illustrator Margaret Evans Price, wife of founder Irving Price, designed the first wooden Fisher-Price toys.
We won’t be able to attend the event unfortunately, but we were able to check out some of the new toys.

The tracks are great because the pieces are sturdy. The different track pieces can be configured in all sorts of layouts. Wooden tracks from one set will connect with wooden pieces from other sets, or from the additional packs of track alone. The trains are wooden as well. What I love about all of them, besides the joy that they bring to my son, is that even though they’re wood they’re well made. They’re not rough at all, they’re smooth, unlike some wooden toys which almost hurt to play with and make you afraid you’ll get a splinter. The pieces are colorful and affordable, making them a gift that will hold up through different generations.

Thomas fans new and old will love these toys for sure! They’re great for hours of fun!
