I enjoyed Despicable Me. In many ways I enjoyed Despicable Me 2 even more. I preferred having Gru as a former bad guy turned father figure. I enjoyed seeing the gruff character caring for three girls. Seeing him jealous when one of the girls was interested in a boy reminded me of how many dads worry about their daughters when they’re at the age to start dating.
Gru is running his own business, he sells jelly that the Minions make in the basement lab. Sadly, the jelly tastes awful. Dr Nefario knows things are going nowhere and accepts another job offer, giving no specifics. Minions start to disappear. Anti-Villains League agent Lucy Wilde appears and wisks Gru away to headquarters in order to persuade him to get back into the game. The Anti-villains League wants Gru to help them find and capture the supervillain El Macho, who is said to have developed a formula that will change people into mean killing machines. Gru and Lucy don’t see eye to eye on anything. They don’t realize what we in real life realize – they have a crush on each other. Before you know it, the wrong man if arrested. Thinking her work is done, Lucy leaves town. Only after Lucy leaves do we learn that the wrong man had been arrested, and that Eduardo is indeed El Macho. He’s kidnapped the minions and given them the serum, making the yellow critters turn purple and very angry. Will Gru be able to save everyone else before the angry Minions take over? Will Gru and Lucy reunite? You’ll have to watch for yourself to find out.
