REVIEW – Annie Sez, East Brunswick, NJ

There are a number of reasons I don’t enjoy clothes shopping. For the last 25 years or so I have been obese, and it’s just no fun to look at nice clothes that don’t fit you, or worse yet try things on to discover they don’t fit you. As the weight fell off I thought I found that I still didn’t enjoy clothes shopping. Even though now in women’s sizes and not plus sizes, I still couldn’t bear to walk through narrow almost non-existent aisles packed with overcrowded racks. And most of all, I still hated trying something on to find it didn’t fit, only to have to go out in the store, through the nasty aisles again to try and find the next size up.
Recently I was invited to a Pre-Grand Opening celebration of the Annie Sez store in East Brunswick, NJ. My Mom was attending and I’d never been to an Annie Sez so I figured why not check it out. So, off we went.
The new 11,000 square foot store is located on Rt. 18 in the new Summerhill Square Shopping Center.

The inside of the store surprised me. It was decorated in pretty colors including berry, fuschia, green and plum. What surprised me the most? Not only is the store big, it’s set up so that it appears to be spacious. I was able to walk between every single rack in the store (and I did, as I was looking for my Mom’s hearing aid) without bumping into another rack. Had I had a baby carriage with me it would have traveled through the store easily. The shoe department was neat, it had a giant cushioned seating area for trying shoes on. This store was designed as the model for future stores, as well as remodels of existing stores.
And so the shopping began.
The clothes racks weren’t bulging and exploding like they do at some stores, which gave things a cleaner and neater look. Plus it’s just easier to look through clothes when you can move them a little. I haven’t shopped in a long time, so I tried to look at everything. There was a wide selection of trendy styles, with sizing that runs to size 16. Everywhere I looked I’d find a different designer or brand – Guess, Lucky, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and many, many more that I can’t think of at the moment. The tag on every item reflected the regular price elsewhere as well as the reduced Annie Sez price. The store carries everything from underwear to outerwear, as well as everything in between including jewelry, shoes and handbags. As I browsed the store I was offered assistance a number of times, asking if I needed help finding something or if I wanted to have them hang items so I didn’t have to carry them while shopping. I made a couple of passes through several areas, finding the pieces that I liked the best. Once I’d found enough for a few outfits I headed towards the dressing room.
The dressing rooms were quite nice. There were a couple of oversized rooms, and a number of average sized rooms. There was even a nice sitting area, where someone could sit while a friend was trying something on. Or where you could have your picture taken, LOL.



Another thing I noticed is that the people in the store were very helpful. I had tried on one shirt that I really liked on the hanger. I had a hard time with the belt and one of the women helped me put it on right. I had also tried on a pair of pants that didn’t fit. One of the women offered to go get me another size so I didn’t even have to leave the dressing room. Now that’s helpful, particularly if you’re like me and hate the undressing, dressing, undressing, dressing, undressing and dressing again that’s involved in trying on an item in more than one size.
