Brief Synopsis:
The Return of the King is the story of Bilbo Baggins’s nephew Frodo and the quest to destroy the One Ring. This Tolkein fantasy-adventure concludes the story begun earlier in The Hobbit. The main places (Modor, Cirith Ungol, Minas Tirith, Gondor, Mount Doom), the main people (Samwise Gamgee , Gandalf, Pippen, Denethor, Gollum, Rohan, Lord Theoden, Aragorn, Sauron, the Eagles), and the main events (the siege, the war, the hopelessness the Battle of Pelennor Fields, and, of course the Red Book).

Only My Opinion:
Rankin-Bass’s The Return of the King as an animated 1980 musical TV special delighted home children and adults alike. I am glad that this original classic has been remastered and is again available. Visuals excel. It continues to delight. Purists may complain that segments and characters have been omitted. However, it serves to lighten and simplify a complex dark story. I prefer it to CGI/live releases entirely unsuitable for family viewing.
