Jules And The Purina ONE 28 Day Challenge Update @purinaonecat

Recently I told you we accepted the opportunity to take the Purina ONE 28 Day Challenge. We began the challenge towards the end of April. (If you missed that post you might find it helpful to read now, before you continue. You can find it here –> Jules And The Purina ONE 28 Day Challenge Kick-Off.)
Of six varieties of Purine ONE Cat Food I chose to go with the Indoor Advantage, which was developed to help minimize hairballs and maintain a healthy weight. Jules is completely an indoor cat, he is not permitted to go outside. Like every cat I have ever owned he’s had his share of hairballs. Not as many as my long-haired cats used to get, but he still gets them nonetheless. I think part of that is because he isn’t outside eating grass that usually helps move things along.
Jules had no problems at all adjusting to the Purina ONE. He took to it right away, happy to eat his food and never turning his head or refusing to eat it. We free feed Jules, filling his bowl every night.  After a week I told hubby that I thought Jules looked different. I wondered if he’d gained weight. Hubby told me he’d noticed the same. We both checked Jules out thoroughly and agreed on the conclusion that Jules fur was changing, it seemed softer and fuller. I also noticed he seemed to be down to popping once a day, instead of the twice he used to go. (Yay for less poop to clean in the litter box!)
Then, something else happened. Jules used to always sleep on the bed next to me. For some reason he stopped at the end of last year. (For those wondering it was before we got Dobby the puppy, so that wasn’t why.) I am a cat person through and through. The first night he came back up onto the bed recently I thought it was a fluke. I was just happy he was up there purring his little heart out and having happy feet (what we call it when he kneads the blanket). When he came up on the bed again the next night and again nights after that I thought long and hard about anything that had changed in day to day life for Jules or for us in the past week and the only big change was the food.

So far we have had no problems wince starting the challenge. I have found two positive things have happened since we started the challenge. No, I have no written proof they happened because of the change in food. But I also have no proof that they didn’t. I believe they did, since there were no other changes that would account for them and the timing just works.

The signs that a cat is unhealthy are more difficult to spot than you might think. 76% of cat owners don’t know that cats sometimes purr when they’re unhappy, and 75% don’t know that a cat’s diet requires more protein than a dog’s diet. In addition, more than 1 in 4 (27%) don’t know that not eating can be a sign of sickness in cats.”
