Feel the Smooth with the Paul Mitchell Pro Tools Express Ion Smooth+ Hair Straightener
I was born with an unruly mop of curls, and an instant affinity for the nursery rhyme about the girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead. Taming that mop was a constant struggle until the birth of my daughter, when that delightful cocktail of hormones did what it sometimes does to people, and my curl suddenly relaxed, becoming almost wavy instead of spiraled and bouncy like it had been for the previous 26 years. Let me tell you, it’s been a bit of an adjustment!
Straightening my hair was never something I was much interested in, because I loved my curls, mess and all. But in college, my fiance at the time had a thing for straight hair (I found out, after I said yes), so I borrowed my roommate’s flat iron and transformed myself. I discovered I really liked my hair glossy smooth, and had a lot of fun that year, messing around with different styles. But then I moved, and the $20 flat iron I found at a big box store just didn’t cut it, and I gave up rather than walk around with a giant poof of fuzzy “straight” hair. Loving my curls, it wasn’t a big deal.
But then things changed when my curl wilted after my daughter’s birth, and I’ve been interested in trying a quality flat iron for some time now. Imagine my delight when a Paul Mitchell Pro Tools Express Ion Smooth+ flat iron in a beautiful rose gold, mirrored finish showed up on my doorstep!
One thing I’ll say right up front – don’t try to straighten your hair with a three year old wrapped around your leg. It’s a bad scene; don’t go there. She’s fine, I’m fine, my nerves are a bit shot. #momlife
Here I am, “before”…

My hair is very thick, and currently sports two or three different kinds of curl, plus a patch of inexplicably stick-straight. I divided it up into “chunks” of hair, and started straightening from the bottom, working my way up layer by layer until I reached the crown, then straightened that in the opposite direction I wanted it to lay, so that when I finished, I could brush it out the wrong direction, and then flip it over, for extra volume and a more natural look.
Here I am “after”…

I love it! The whole thing only took me about 20 minutes, and that’s with fending off my overly enthusiastic three year old the entire time. Color me impressed!

I was extremely impressed with the 60 second heat up time, and was even more impressed to find that the iron cooled down completely in less than 5 minutes. Talk about efficiency! I also love that the cord includes an attached velcro clasp, so you don’t have to worry about messy cord chaos – a must in my tiny bathroom.
I highly recommend the Paul Mitchell Pro Tools Express Ion Smooth+ flat iron, and can only imagine that the rest of the Pro Tools line is equally impressive. These professional-at-home tools are only available through salons, so visit yours to find out more, or check out their website!
