Remember not long ago I announced that I had been selected as an official correspondent for One Life To Live? Yesterday I was fortunate enough to be able to be a part of a conference call with Kristen Alderson, the actress that portrays Starr on One Life To live.
The other correspondents on the call were
- Laurie from Guessing All The Way
- Lee from My Sentiment Exactlee
During our call we learned that when the cast was really excited when they discovered they would be doing another musical. Obviously there were some “nervous” moments for everyone. Kristen’s brother in real life plays Matthew, Starr’s friend, on the show. He was nervous but once he got started he enjoyed himself.
Kristen told us that the most difficult aspect of this musical for the cast was getting into routine. Lots of cast members are involved and the show even brought in 32 professional dancers to make the routines shine.
I was very curious about the actual music chosen to be featured in the three day musical event. I asked who selected the music. Kristen explained that it was a collaborative effort – cast members were asked to choose ten songs they liked and then the executive producer, director and writers made the decisions.
Another thing that I wanted to know was how she felt about the wide selection of songs. That is, since many of the songs aren’t current hits, did she find herself enjoying any of the oldies that she might not have had much exposure to before. Kristen explained that she was quite nervous about performing the Pat Benetar song “We Belong” at first but came to be fairly comfortable and pleased with the results. The song “We Blong” was in today’s episode and it was my favorite of the songs and I thought she did a terrific job.
I am expecting a transcript of the conference call and will post it when I receive it. Participating in the call was a lot of fun and an experience I’ll never forget. Kristen was very friendly and answered all of our questions. She seemed very open and down to earth, something she attributes to her mother’s determination to keep her well grounded.
Don’t forget One Life To Life’s Starr X’d Lovers Musical starts today! I watched today’s episode and I think I’m enjoying this one more than the first One Life To Live musical three years ago. And today is only day one. Be sure to tune in this weekend on SoapNet if you missed the show. Then watch on Monday and we can chat about your thoughts.

I was given financial compensation from ABC Daytime to write this post. My reviews and recommendations are always my own and represent my genuinely held opinions.

Actually this is gthe third musical–there were others in 2002 and 2007. I was traveling yesterday and missed the first segment. I’ll be turning on my recorded as soon as I get off the computer to see what I missed. FYI: Soap Opera Digest has a wonderful teaser on it.

I do believe that was their voices.
