I published a review of Need For Speed after seeing an advance screening of the movie earlier this year. In short, I love, love, loved the movie. The movie is based on a popular racing video game. The movie has a great cast of characters, great cars and lots of great special effects. And did I mention that it’s got great cars? I covet the Mustang in this movie.
Need For Speed has an interesting storyline that keeps driving forward. It’s the classic clash of good guy vs bad guy, or underdog vs rich and privileged snob if you prefer.You know, have vs have not. Tobey Marshall is the underdog, aka the good guy. Dino Brewster is the rich and privileged snob, aka the bad guy. There’s lots of bad blood between the two, which lends itself to some really intense interaction. Both men are hoping to win a very exclusive invite-only race called De Leon. Marshall gets his invite at the last minute and must race across the country just to get to the location where the secret race information is being given. Despite time and the odds being against him Marshall makes it across the country, escaping the hit that was put out on him by Brewster. He finds himself scrambling for a car that will be race worthy after a horrific crash. Almost miraculously Marshall finds a car and makes it to the starting line of De Leon just in time for the race to start. The race is super intense and gets very aggressive. I won’t tell you the end so you’re just going to have to watch it for yourself.
