Dobby
Growing up my Mom always described our family as working class poor. In general, by this she meant she worked hard to get by, and didn’t have much “extra” money after meeting our obligations (if she was in fact able to meet them). My family is the same. I have to take a lot of care with our budget and spending. I must watch costs on everything, from clothing to entertainment to food to pet supplies.
Healthier blends and natural dog foods have gained much attention recently. I’ll be honest. When selecting puppy food for Dobby I looked at a number of varieties of those. I couldn’t afford them and that was that. Now, Dobby is almost two. That’s the age where historically I’ve stopped feeding puppy food and switched to adult. So, once again it’s time to look at what’s out there.

As it turns out, not only do their ingredients count, so does their price point. I was quite surprised to find that affordable healthy pet food does exist, and that switching to a healthier, more natural diet can be done without going into the poorhouse and making major adjustments to your budget. The Nature’s Recipe food was almost the same price as some of the brands that aren’t natural that are sold in the grocery store.

  1. That’s good to know. So much of the healthier choices are so expensive! I’ve seen food for $80 a bag! I like having an affordable option.

  2. You have an adorable dog.. so I can see why what you feed for food would be so important. We have a cat and he is important to us so we watch his food to.

  3. I finally just found a food that my pups will eat, but once that bag is done I’d love to try this as I’ve heard so much about Natures Recipe. I hope I can find it here, sounds great.

  4. So important that we we are furry friends right. Thanks for sharing about Nature’s Recipe, I’ll have to check it out for our little guy!

  5. Price and ingredients do count. The healthier the food we are able to feed our pets the healthier they will be. That translates into lower and less frequent vet bills.

  6. I’m surprised to hear that healthy pet food is affordable too. That is news to cheer about though, for sure. 🙂
