A picture book about vehicles and things that go—in this case, bicycles and unicycles—by Byron Barton, the acclaimed creator of My Car, My Bus, and numerous other classic titles!
Tom, the narrator of this cheerful picture book for preschoolers, is the proud owner of a bright green bicycle. After Tom describes all the parts of his bike, he rides the bike to work. He rides along busy roads and bustling streets, past cars and buses and animals and people, until he arrives at the circus, changes into his work clothes, and goes to work. It turns out that Tom is a clown, and his job is to ride a unicycle on a high wire under the big top! A fresh and fun look at riding (on two wheels and one), community, transportation, and professions, with a surprise ending!
About the Author
Byron Barton is the author-artist of many beloved picture books for the youngest reader, including My Car; My Bus; Building a House; Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs; and Machines at Work. His books have earned numerous awards and honors, including six ALA Notable Book Awards, a New York Times Best Illustrated Books selection, five School Library Journal Best Books of the Year selections, and two Reading Rainbow books. My Bike is an easy reader that tells you a quick story about Tom and his bicycle. It goes over parts of a bike and his backpack and helmet. The book presents everything in a very colorful way, from bike parts and backpack to helmet. As we read along, R was asking “what’s that mommy?” After you learn about Tom’s bicycle you go along with him on his way to work to find out what he does for his job. This is an extremely cute book and I can see any younger child enjoying it.

  1. I think my youngest, JJ would love this! He is starting pre-k in the fall so I am trying to teach him a few words and get him ready before he starts.
