It’s a well known fact that it’s easier to absorb new languages when you’re young. That’s a part of why small children can pick up things related to language and communication. Thing about rote memorization and practicing things with spelling and vocabulary. It doesn’t make the most sense when you start learning it but then later it clicks and you grasp concepts and can do the work, partially because of that foundation that was laid months or years before. I remember when my oldest was young, he went through a phase where he copied saying everything. And then would say it unexpectedly and have it be completely relevant.
Kadho is a company founded by two PhDs, that is also backed by a strong network of early childhood educators, linguists, neuroscientists and child psychologists. Kadho uses all of that knowledge, research and resources to develop games and eBooks that are designed to maintain and enhance the innate language abilities that children are born with.

Over 50 years of science has shown the most critical phases of early childhood education actually begin at birth till age three. This time is a window of opportunity for the proper formation of Neurofoundation™ for the brains core connections needed for basic sensory, social and emotional processing and understanding. Kadho aims to lead the advancement of child development research and improve children’s lives everywhere. Kadho’s goals are to support, enhance and supplement traditional child raising so that, no matter what a child’s economic or social circumstance might be, he can reach his full language potential.

Kadhu’s newest app is entitled Mochu Pop.The game is targeted at children ages 1-3 years old. Only one player is able to play at a time, but multiple players can each have their own profile. The game can be played in several languages including English, Spanish, French and Italian.
Parents set the game up. It’s easy to set up and only takes a moment to do. The only information required is a name, birthdate and gender.

When the child starts to play the game you choose which of the four languages they will be playing in.

In this game, players see balloons and are asked to pop balloons of a specific color and shape. When the correct balloon is popped the child hears a sound. The sounds that are heard are similar to those that one hears when learning how to pronounce different letters. Some of the first sounds introduced include too, eee, aaa, keh, and tay. An animated sun and moon bounce slowly and gently around the sky during play. There are also a couple of other animated characters that float by along with the balloons. When you click on those they offer words of encouragement. Soft and gentle music plays in the background. I was pleased to find that it wasn’t annoying like most app music, but for those that with it can be turned off in app.
Mochu Pop is structured to help improve hand to eye coordination, encouraging the development of visual and motor planning. Memory and thought processing abilities are also tasked as the player must work to remember which balloons need to be popped and which don’t as they move from round to round.

Each “round” in the game is short, which is great for parents concerned about their little ones spending too much time looking at the screen. Parents will also appreciate knowing that Kadho games are equipped with Blue-Light Filtering Technology that allows you to filter out the detrimental blue light from electronic devices. A third, an very important, thing that parents will love knowing is that the game is KidSAFE certified, does not advertise for third party products and does not have in app purchases.

Kadho’s analytical dashboard (web based) allows parents to monitor their kids performance. Parents are able to see their child’s progress and see what sounds the child has heard and what sounds they still need to hear.
Mochu Pop presents children with the opportunity to not only build a foundation in their own language, but also to learn the foundation of other languages. This creates a strong foundation for learning throughout life.
Here’s a brief video showing how the game works.

  1. That sounds like a great app for parents who wish to teach their children a second language. Very cool.

  2. Staying fluent in any second language means sustained practice daily. Fact is many high schools do not even require taking one. Lot to consider….

  3. I bet my 4 year old would love this. He’s starting to enjoy technology. It wouldn’t hurt to expose him to other languages either!

  4. Kids today have such an advantage! I would have loved to have been exposed to multiple languages as a child. I need to try this with my youngest.

  5. I think it’s such a great sounding app. I love the idea of teaching a foreign language to the kiddos when they’re small enough for it to just be easy!

  6. I can’t wait to try this app out for my kids; I love the idea of language immersion!
