School starts up again in a little over five weeks here in New Jersey. In the weeks prior the pediatrician’s waiting room is frequently much more crowded then usual. It isn’t because kids are sick, at least not all of them. It’s because kids need to get their vaccinations and boosters before school opens. I am a great believer in getting vaccinations, I feel they are very important. Which is probably why states require them for school aged children. If you don’t have a pediatrician, or just don’t want to go to one, CVS Minute Clinic is an alternative option.
MinuteClinic offers a variety of back-to-school vaccinations. It is important to know your state’s requirements for vaccinations such as meningitis and pertussis. If you know what vaccinations are needed you’ll be prepared in advance and ready, instead of  running around at the last minute trying to get things done so your child doesn’t miss the first day of school. To find out which vaccinations are required in your area, visit: http://bit.ly/1lUS5vo.
Maybe vaccinations aren’t an issue. Maybe a physical is all that’s needed. MinuteClinic offers pre-participation sports physicals for just $39 (that’s $20 off!). I remember when my oldest was in middle school running track. He passed out once from dehydration. Every school year after I made sure he had a physical, no matter if it was required or not. My oldest, getting ready to enter college, needs to get a college physical and be sure everything is as it should be and up to date. MinuteClinic offers those too. Basically, MinuteClinic helps make it easier to send kids back to school healthy and protected.

  1. We’re so lucky to have a MinuteClinic not too far away from us! Although my daughter won’t be starting school until next school year, I do need to keep up on her vaccinations! I had no idea that the Minute Clinic even offered them, it’s good to know!

  2. I love the idea behind this, I just wish they would open more clinics so there’d be one here! They seem like they would really save some time and money!

  3. How helpful is this!? I know that insurance isn’t always helpful when it comes to this stuff if you have a high deductible, so this is certainly a good opportunity! I wish there was one closer to me! Thanks for sharing!

  4. Getting in to the pediatrician isn’t always easy. It’s good to know the Minute Clinic is available to us. A minute is all the time I have some days!

  5. I wish we had this in Manhattan! I am in CVS almost every day, it is my local pharmacy. I will have to check this out on Staten Island next time I go to the in-laws!
    thanks,
    Mitch

  6. I need to make sure my daughter is up to date on all her shots for Kindergarten. I am pretty sure we got them all, but I don’t want any surprises last minute.

  7. My oldest needs to have a well check before he goes back to school this year. I like the coupon book that goes along with a visit! That’s an added bonus!

  8. We visited Minute Clinc and it was awesome. The nurse turned out to be from the Dallas Children’s Hospital and was amazing! She works part-time at the Minute Clinic near us.

  9. I have used these clinics a few times and they have been a complete life saver. Getting into the DR for physical this time of year is awful

  10. My son needs a shot before school starts and I’m not looking forward to it! This time we’ll be getting it at the doctor since it’s his birthday and time for a well check anyway, but it’s nice to know we could do it at CVS next time!

  11. shots are no fun no matter what age. I think that is the least fav part of the back to school dr visits.

  12. Oh I’ve heard of minute clinic. I wonder if they have one in our area. I’m sure people would rather go here, than wait in a busy doctor’s office.

  13. I’ve heard a little bit about Minute Clinic and I think it’s such a useful/great idea! And I agree with you, a physical every year is not a bad idea, even if it’s not required by the school.
