Last year I was fortunate to be able to receive an Oreck XL Gold Vacuum for review. We’ve been very pleased with it and have never had a problem. When I was offered the opportunity to review Oreck’s latest, the first thing I wondered was what had changed. I checked it out online and read a bit about it. I was intrigued by the new features and really wanted to check them out so I decided to accept. Boy am I glad I did, and you will be too. (Keep reading.)
The Oreck Platinum Pilot Vacuum is a two piece system. The system comes in one big box with an upright vacuum and a lightweight handheld vac.

It make look like an ordinary upright vacuum but the Oreck Platinum Pilot Vacuum Cleaner was designed with a 360° Glide technology and ball-joint and pivot connection that allows the vacuum to tilt, twist and turn anywhere you need it to go without repositioning the vacuum – making cleaning more effective, faster and easier. If you didn’t know you’d probably never guess that it can vacuum while laying flat, allowing you to vacuum under things. The vacuum has an advanced HEPA filtration with antimicrobial protection.

  1. One things for sure; my vacuum doesn’t have a 360* turn in the front…nope, just back and forth for mine.
    Also, it doesn’t have the suction performance this vacuum has- I am so jealous…but happy you get one!
    I have a dumpster find from about 3 years ago and it’s had better days (like the first month after finding it). Since then, well, I can’t afford to replace it, so there it sits, performing at its full potential which isn’t very good.

  3. I cannot limit myself to one feature. It’s lightweight!! I loath heavy vacuums! 10 free annual tune-ups? Hello wowsers! That is a REAL value. You said you received yours last year, have you done the tune-up? Was is difficult? How much time? I would have liked to read more on the website about their advanced HEPA filtration and antimicrobial protection.

  6. The Oreck Platinum Pilot lays virtually flat to fit easily under furniture. My huge, heavy vacuum bumps into the furniture and puts dings in the wood. When I want to clean under furniture, I have to get my hubby to come move the furniture out of the way!

  49. It’s amazing…what’s not to love?! My favorite feature is the IntellaShield Antimicrobial Protection. My vacuum cleaner is on it’s last leg, will barely pick up anything…and with a new baby on the way, I could REALLY use a new vacuum that I know is deep cleaning…and since we’ve spent all of our extra money on baby gear, this would be such a nice giveaway to win!!

  73. I currently have central vac. I have to drag the hose and attachments all over the house. It’s ok upstairs as we have wood floors that need to be cleaned daily. However, I hate trying to take it downstairs to clean. Thus the downstairs get vacuumed very infrequently….ugh!

  107. I have an old vacuum that’s bulky and hard to maneuver, so I’d appreciate the furniture-friendly design of the Oreck. It has a low profile and lays almost flat to fit under furniture. It also has a ball-joint and pivot connection to go where you need it to go in one continuous motion.

  108. Well one thing this would have my current vacuum has is the duct tape that is holding my cord together … hehe do not run over your cord several times the wire will disappear :).
    Mine is great but this has some way better features! The Unique ball-joint and pivot connection provide easy steering and greater maneuverability, wow mine is so hard to turn. And the Advanced HEPA filtration and antimicrobial protection is way above my current system. And the bonus that I loved is the Two speed settings, I’ve never seen this!

  118. I currently use a dirt devil and it does not have easy steering and amazing maneuverability. Nor does it feature a re-engineered, powerful, pile-lifting roller brush that moves through carpet easier.

  166. I currently have an old Hoover Windtunnel someone gave us and the Oreck looks so shiny and new – and small! My current on is so bulky and you can barely move it yet the unique ball-joint and pivot connection design on the Platinum Pilot will make vacuuming so much less of a burden.

  182. Wow! This is an awesome vacuum cleaner. I’ve currently got a Bissell Powerforce bagless. A feature that the Platinum Pilot has that my current vacuum does not is that the Pilot has 360° Glide which gives it amazing maneuverability. This means that with just a flick of a wrist, this vacuum twists and turns and gets into all corners and In between stuff making it require a lot less physical work and strain on my part to vacuum my house thoroughly.

  183. The direct suction makes the vacuum much more effective and energy efficient. Instead of working hard to pull the air and dirt through a convoluted path to get to the receptacle, it pulls the dirt along a straighter path with minimal bends.

My vacuum is so stiff and bulky and this beautiful Oreck has an awesome swivel feature. The Oreck Platinum Vacuum is so nice, I would love to give it a new home!

  245. My current vacuum is *very* basic – does an okay job on the floor, struggles with the carpet. It’s nice because it’s small and light, but I’d really like the power of a stronger brush from a vacuum designed to handle rugs! I also can’t believe it is nearly flat under furniture! And the tune-ups! Anyone with pet hair to deal with would love that!

  247. The most notable feature is the weight. My current vacuum is VERY heavy and the website states this vacuum weighs just a little more than a gallon of milk. Portability is a must and it is a chore lugging around my current vacuum. Oh, this Oreck would be a dream.

    The thing that is different about this vacuum then my current vacuum is that it weighs around the same as a gallon of milk (around 10lbs!) That is amazing and would make it much easier to push while holding a baby and trying to steer a dog out of the way at the same time! I also love that it turns easily with just the flick of your wrist. Sounds like an awesome vacuum that any parent would love to own! 🙂

    1. 30 foot cord, my is only about 9 ft. I can’t even do one room without having to re-plug it somewhere else
    2. Dual-speed. My only has one speed and it doesn’t pick up much of anything

  380. The sound dampening technology sounds really interesting. Our current vacuum makes my son cry sometimes. And I can’t vacuum when he’s napping because it wakes him. So I end up holding him while I vacuum, ugh! I’ve never had a vacuum that had a bag before, so I wouldn’t look forward to buying replacements. But I like the 10 free tune ups offer.

I learned that there are game apps that can be downloaded onto iphone or ipad that are based on the Dr. Seuss books.   413. My son has asthma, so the HEPA-filtration is a must for us. We need to ensure all the dust, dirt and allergens picked sucked up from the vacuum does not make it back in the air. Oh and the fact its only 10LBs and swivels easily is perfect for me 🙂

  471. Well I dont have a working vacuum so I am using a broom to clean my carpet with because I cant afford to go out and buy a new one. I noticed by looking at the oreck site the it uses a unique ball-joint and pivot connection to easily guide the vacuum exactly where you need it to go. My broom doesnt do that and since it sucks up the dirt well my broom doesnt do that either. I really need a new vacuum!!!

I learned that since your mom’s bariatric surgery, she has been eating six small snacks or meals, watching her calories and focusing on eating more proteins and less carbs. I learned that she did a review on Focus28 diet meals and was pleased at how good the meals and snacks tasted. Their Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars are only 150 calories, 19 grams of carbs and have 10 grams of protein.

  800. The furniture friendly feature which pivots so the vacuum fits under furniture easily is very different from my current vacuum. With my current vacuum the only way to get under furniture is to move the furniture. I rarely move furniture, so there is lots of dog hair and dust under it.

  844. My vacuum is heavy and bulky with a slew of bulky attachments i rairly use. The oreck boasts on how light weight the machine is and I find this appealing and so dose my poor back. Additionally the oreck will be able to fit into areas of our home where our current is pretty limited given its huge size and overall weight…
