LEGO STAR WARS: THE NEW YODA CHRONICLES delivers many sly laughs about the Saga along with plenty of pint-sized action as in “Escape From the Jedi Temple.” Set in the timespan covered by THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK but told mostly in flashback by Force-spirit Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda on Dagobah, the bulk of the show relates how younger Kenobi and Yoda rescued the Holocron crystals from the Jedi Temple before the newly minted Darth Vader gets them.
Young viewers may appreciate the LEGO-style action and fighting duplicated from the popular video game series like Star Wars, but older fans and adults will appreciate the multiple levels of more subtle humor that pokes fun directly at the STAR WARS Saga itself: how crashing TIE fighters bent the wings of Vader’s ship into his customized TIE shape and admitting Jar Jar’s inherent annoyance factor by quadrupling it to torment Anakin-in-the-can proves that this seemingly harmless LEGO-animated treatment of the Saga has a fair amount of satirical bite to it.
