Our Christmas vacations are generally very laid back. We spend a lot of time with each other, as well as other family members and friends. For those with children involved in sports, some would like opportunities for children to work on skills over the break. Here’s a few tips from Ginny on how you might be able to make that happen.

As your children start their Christmas vacation, it’s important to keep them active. Just because school is out doesn’t mean the opportunity to practice or play is gone. Many good sporting activities are available, even for sports out of season. Not only will you be able to get your children out of the house, but they will also get some exercise, while improving at their favorite sport. Here are a few great ideas for the holiday break.
1. Baseball Camp
Even in cold weather states, many coaches hold baseball camps indoors for players in the area. You can sign your child up and get them one of the best infield baseball gloves for Christmas. This will allow them time to work on their skills, get to know the coaches better and have fun playing baseball in the off-season.
2. Hockey Pickup Games
If there’s an ice rink nearby or a place where others go to play hockey, you can involve your child in pickup hockey games. Sometimes these are a bit more organized and an adult will help put the teams together. Finding these types of events is easy, if hockey is popular in your area. Your kid will get some good exercise while working on their stick and skating skills.
3. Indoor Soccer
Indoor soccer is one of the most popular choices for both kids and adults. You can sign your child up to play over the holiday break and you can play, as well. Some of the indoor sports centers offer holiday camps and leagues to get your kids involved in. Just inquire with the closest indoor facility and they will most likely offer some options for all different age groups.
4. Basketball
Since basketball is already an indoor game, for the most part, it fits very well for the holiday season. Christmas break is a very popular time for basketball camps and other events. Coaches may not be able to hold practices for the school team or they may be limited (depending on the rules in your area), but they can encourage their players to attend other camps or participate in holiday leagues.
It doesn’t matter which sport your child is most interested in, as long as you get them involved over the holiday season. Coaches of many different sports hold holiday camps for a few days or even for an entire week. This is a great way to keep your child involved, get them out of the house and let them enjoy their break.

We spend so much time transporting that family time is less and less.
