I like watches. I have a number of them. Some are easy to put on. Some are not, and those don’t get worn very often. Basically if it doesn’t look nice (to me) and I can’t put it on myself, I’m probably not going to wear it. When I was offered the opportunity to review a JORD Wood Watch I was very intrigued. I couldn’t imagine what a watch made of real wood might look and feel like.
JORD Wood Watches are unique hand-crafted watches that are made from natural wood. Some of the woods used include bamboo, maple, sandlewood, blackwood, cherry, and teak. The bands and movement housings can be made from one or more types of wood. The internal movements are sourced from the finest international watch manufacturers and the glass is a scratchproof “blue film” glass. I chose the Ely model, which is made of maple and retails for $129. This model watch has a smaller face then many of the others, but is still suitable for both men and women to wear in my opinion. JORD watches vary in color and style. Each JORD watch is designed to be splash-proof but is not intended for complete submergence in water. Like snowflakes, no two JORD watches are the same, because the grain and colors of the woods vary. Watches come with one year of limited warranty protection. My watch arrived safely, resting comfortably inside a nice box on a puffy, padded pillow.

I went to put my watch on immediately. I was thrilled to discover that the band is made in such a way that is very easy to put the watch on with one hand, even if it’s the left hand of a clutzy right-handed person like me. To release the band you just squeeze the two buttons with two fingers and it opens right up. To close the band you just gently push the stainless steel clasp down into place. I thought for sure that the watch would be heavy and rough, and I even contemplated that I might get a splinter. To my surprise, the watch is very light and very smooth. I have worn it for about a week now with no issues. It’s simple and elegant, and goes well with everything.
The one thing I m not thrilled about in regards to this watch is changing the date. Winding it is no big deal. But to change the date you must manually keep turning to go through every hour of every day, whereas many other watches allow you to just move forward a day at a time. My watch arrived and was off by three weeks. It took me five days of winding (not straight of course) to get it to the right date because my fingers would get tired. Fortunately, if you keep the watch wound you won’t have to worry about changing the date often, so this isn’t really a big deal.

I am very pleased with my JORD wood watch. It’s a lovely, unique piece that serves a purpose with style. More than a few people have noticed my watch and asked me about it, remarking how unique it was. I agree. Some people sigh at the thought of giving (or receiving) a watch. That won’t be the case with a JORD watch. If you’re looking to give someone a unique gift that will be appreciated, noticed and remembered, JORD wood watches are something you’ll want to consider.
