Have you heard of the ABC television show called Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution? Jamie’s Food Revolution aims to change how Americans eat—by helping them learn to cook. It’s such a hot button topic, especially among parents, that American eating habits have become increasingly unhealthy, and rely too much on processed and fast food. This has become more evident as obesity, heart disease and diabetes threaten to create the first generation of children with shorter life expectancies than their parents. Over the years, Jamie says that he’s “consistently observed the most radical, inspiring and completely emotional changes, simply through showing people how to cook a handful of meals.”
The first time I saw a commercial for this show I was struck by the statement that our children are members of the first generation with a life expectancy shorter than their parents. That’s rather astounding. And saddening. And eye opening. And truthful.
To continue to spread the momentum and to show that people care about the importance of promoting healthy food and cooking skills for children, Jamie has created an online petition which he plans to present to the White House: www.JamiesFoodRevolution.com/petition.
So far more almost 300,000 people have signed the petition. The more folks that sign this one the better I think, so weigh in with your signature now.

  1. I truly believe that fifty+ years ago Americans ate better. However, divorces and working moms caused problems with time not even convenience really–not enough. Prepared food became popular and also fast food.
They problem is with public school lunch programs is that the ones which follow nutritional guidelines do not make money AND the kids most likely throw lots of it away or worse at one another in food fights.
People choose to eat what they like and want. Just ask my daughter about healthy balanced meals.
