When it comes to pet food, things have really changed over the years. Don’t get me wrong, things have changed in regards to many things over the years. But pet food is one of the areas where I have seen the biggest changes. Back in the day there were a couple of brands of dog food in the grocery store and you fed your dog one of those. I think it was sometime during the early 90s when PetSmart opened in my area. A real honest-to-goodness store dedicated to everything pets. Suddenly things were different. We pet owners had choices, far more than the limited number of choices available in the grocery store.
In the past couple of years we’ve heard more about natural foods. And I started learning about those. Then, in just the past six months or so, I started hearing discussion on raw and grain-free food, I’ve come to understand that a few of the benefits of feeding raw include better digestion, improved energy and vitality, and healthy skin and soft coat. The benefits do vary from dog to dog as you would expect, the amount of raw food fed and the length of time its been fed also play a factor.

One might wonder how difficult it is to switch to raw. Or, if you can feed just some raw some of the time. The answer to these questions and more can be found close by, since you can purchase Mixers at your local PetSmart, in the aisle under the sign that says “Nature’s Variety.” Tucked in right there with the food you will find Instinct® Raw Boost® Mixers.

Mixers are an easy way for folks like you and I to let our dogs try raw food. They can be used as a topper or as a mixer combined in with whatever food you are already feeding. There are four different proteins available for dogs – beef, chicken, lamb, and turkey. There are also two varieties for cats – chicken and turkey. Mixers are shelf stable at room temperature. They are grain free, and gluten free.

I love that Instinct has made it easy for folks like me to try Raw Boost Mixers. They sell a trial-sized bag that is enough for one serving. These 1-ounce bags sell for $1.99, and may even be available at a discounted price right now in your local store. These bags are a great way to gauge if your pet will enjoy the food, or to try the different flavors. They also make it simple to stock up and store for use as a treat if you like.
We’ve just introduced Mixers to Dobby, so check back in a couple of weeks when I’ll be sharing how he likes it.

  1. Right now I don’t have a dog, but when I do I think that raw food is defiantly not bad for them. Wolves eat all raw food. I will be interested in trying this.

  2. I haven’t tried Raw yet but will keep them on my radar for when we get another Dog. Which I am thinking of doing very soon as my neighborhood has changed dramatically – totally NOT in a good way – this past year especially!

  3. I’ve never heard of these before. They seem like a great product for dogs. I’ve never tried this before. I’ll have to look for the products because this seems like a great option.

  4. This sounds like a great options for those who’d like to try raw. Or even for those who can’t afford a strictly raw diet for their pups.

  5. I have been seeing these a lot lately. My dogs would be happy with these mixers. In fact, I think they would be super excited about them.
