“The rainforest is home to millions of plant and animal species. Some animals live high up in the trees, some crawl across the forest floor, and some tunnel underground, but they all depend on one another and the rain to survive. With colorful illustrations and fascinating diagrams from author-illustrator Kate Duke, In the Rainforest is a lively look at the most vibrant ecosystem on our planet. This is a Stage 2 Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science book, which means the book explores more challenging concepts for children in the primary grades and supports the Common Core Learning Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science is the winner of the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Subaru Science Books & Films Prize for Outstanding Science Series.”
Do you know when Earth Day is? It is coming up next month , April 22nd. I figured since Earth Day was coming up, I would read In The Rainforest with my little one. In The Rainforest is part of a book series entitled Let’s-Read-and-Find-Out Science series. There is stage 1 and stage 2. In The Rainforest is part of stage 2. In the series they have different topics they cover. From the human body, to the solar system, weather, and animals just to name a few. I have never heard of this series before, but am so thrilled I know about it now.
In the book we follow a tour guide and two children on an informative adventure in the rainforest. Illustrations in this book are amazing! They are so detailed. Each page has the text, but little white bubbles and boxes with additional facts. Anyone remember The Magic School Bus series? That is exactly what In The Rainforest reminds me of! In The Rainforest is filled with great information on the tropical rainforest. How much rain falls there. How all the trees are. All the different layers of the rainforest. My son’s favorite was learning about the animals and bugs that live there. He learned how all the parts of the rainforest work together. He also learned the harsh truth about rainforests being destroyed.

I thought this book was great. It is filled with tons of information about the rainforest. The book is long and the illustrations really helped keep my sons-who is 3, attention. In The Rainforest is a stage 2 book which is geared towards children in the primary grades. Stage 1 explains simple topics for preschoolers and kindergarteners. I’d really love to get my hands on some more books from this series. Since my little one is only 3, I would pick something out from stage 1 of the series. Even though the book was a little advanced for my child, he really enjoyed it and so did I!
