The first thing I had to do as a member of the HP Virtual Focus Group was get the printers installed.  The two models of printers being compared in this six week side by side test are the HP Photosmart C6380 and the Kodak ESP 7.
Here’s the HP Photosmart C6380.

Now here’s a look at the Kodak ESP 7.

Both of the printers were easy to set up. Neither required any more documentation or reading then the included quick start cards. I chose to connect both printers using the WiFi feature, something I didn’t have with my previous printer. In setting up the wireless network there was a step where information needed to be input. It was easier and more convenient on the Kodak, because the Kodak offered the entire keyboard on one screen (numbers and letters), as opposed to offering letters on one screen and numbers on another like the HP.
Once installed I printed the test pages as recommended. At this point I discovered I had a bad color ink cartridge for the Kodak, which I had to replace immediately as it wasn’t printing 2 entire colors. Once I got another cartridge into the Kodak I found the the test pages were comparable but the ones from the Kodak seemed lighter.

Stay tuned. The next installment will be on printing documents.
