Each January there are a good number of people thatb make resolutions and promises to do things better or to try and live healthier. One of the healthiest things we can do for ourselves is to reduce the amount of stress in our lives. Here are a four tips on how to reduce your stress in the new year.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
Competition isn’t always healthy, not if it’s costing you peace of mind. Don’t compare yourself to other people, particularly those you see on social media. The grass is not always greener on the other side, remember there is such a thing as artificial grass. Accept who you . Set and work towards goals within the realm of the possible, doing the best you can. There’s no need to keep up with the Joneses. Competitions for who can own the best things are pointless, things are just things after all.
Stop associating with negative people.
If you are spending a lot of time with someone who’s always negative you know how exhausting that can be. Avoid spending large amounts of time with people displaying nothing but negativity, cut the ties if possible. If you can’t completely cut ties with someone who’s always negative then limit the time you have to spend with them and don’t fuel their fire.
Stop overextending yourself.
On an airplane they tell you to put your own oxygen mask on before trying to help others with theirs. We cannot take care or ourselves or anything else properl if we’re overextended. Don’t be afraid to say no to things. Don’t stretch yourself so thin that nothing gets done right.
Stop overreacting.
Not every misfortune, accident or bad thing that happens to us is the worst thing ever. Put things into perspective by considering if things could be worse. Chance are that even if things don’t go our way they’re not the worst thing in the world. If you attempt something and it doesn’t turn out as hoped, try to learn something from it for the future. Always try to find the good, or at least the positive.
