What type of an ad is likely to get your attention?
Is it an ad that grabs your attention by offering you something extra. For example – Free BENEFIT makeup bag with a $25 spend at Sephora.com.
Or is it an ad with a single product at a lower price? You know, all pasta $.79 per box.
Or, is it an ad with no prices, just a discount. Like, all shoes 50% off.
Or finally, is it just a banner with the word sale?
Here’s why I’m asking. I’ve mentioned before, my Mom loves a good sale. Now don’t get me wrong, Mom is not cheap. To me the word cheap is rather unflattering. Frugal is a better word for my Mom, because it means thrifty and prudent, which she is.
Mom notices sale signs and such, but they’re generally not how she finds the sales. My Mom stalks sales, she’ll watch the stores before they have a sale and watch clearance racks, and then when the sale is announced she pounces. She’s really good. She rarely pays full price for anything. She’s actually gotten to know people in the stores she frequents, and they give her a heads up beforehand on when their next sale is going to be. In a way, that’s like shopping foreplay to me. I understand saving money, but I just don’t have time to constantly browse. That’s partly because my schedule is packed and partly because I just don’t have the patience.
So I’ve been wondering if I’m different, if Mom is different, or if we both are. So please tell me, how does a sale get your attention?
