Two of my daughter’s favorite things are Halloween and books. It’s such a fun way to gear up for Halloween, which will be here before we know it, by reading some books about the spooky event. She was super excited to receive five different books for her age group, especially the Fancy Nancy book that included stickers.
Some frighteningly fun titles I’d like to tell you about are:
- Fancy Nancy: Candy Bonanza written by Jane O’Connor, illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser
Today is Halloween and Nancy can’t wait to collect candy from each house she visits. But it’s hard to leave all those delectable treats in her pumpkin pail. Is there such a thing as too much candy? Fans of Fancy Nancy will delight in this Halloween storybook adventure, complete with stickers!
- Happy Halloween, Witch’s Cat written and illustrated by Harriet Muncaster
A little girl thinks her mother is a good witch, and she’s a special witch’s cat. They set out to find the perfect Halloween costume. But, really, what’s better than being a witch’s cat?!
- Otter Loves Halloween! written and illustrated by Sam Garton
According to Otter, Halloween is the BEST holiday ever! With tasks like pumpkin picking, decorating their home and making scary costumes, it becomes such a busy time for Otter and Teddy. Good thing Otter’s a Halloween expert!
- Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins written and illustrated by James Dean
Don’t miss out on Pete the Cat’s adaptation of the classic Halloween song, “Five Little Pumpkins.” Take a listen on Amazon and get your kids to make a song of it with you.
- Scaredy-Cat, Splat! written and illustrated by Rob Scotton
With Halloween here, Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in his class. However, he ends up looking more silly than frightening! But when a jack-o-lantern spooks him, he looks like the scaredy-est cat in the whole school! Splat does end up coming to the rescue when a mysterious creature shows up in Mrs. Wimpydimple’s classroom. He even surprises himself with his fur-raising abilities! He’s the purrr-fect one for the job!

These are all such cute books! My kids are huge fans of Splat the Cat and Pete the Cat 🙂 We love reading holiday books.

Halloween is my favorite time of year and Halloween books are the best. I believe Spencer has already brought home the Scaredy Cat Splat book but I could be mistaken. I actually keep Halloween books in our rotation all year long. I don’t keep any other Holiday books in rotation. Teehee.

We have a few of these and some I have not come across before. They look like great books for kids. I am all about encouraging reading for my kids!
Books are just the best things ever and these are wonderful! I am a big fan of Fancy Nancy so will have to check this one out further. Getting kids started reading with these types of books are a great approach to loving to read.
