Greek Yogurt Tasteoff
We all like yogurt. After that all bets are off. We like different flavors, different brands, different textures. You name it and other then having the word yogurt in it chances are we don’t agree on it. Some like to eat it once in a while while some could eat it every day. You get the picture. The first time I tried Greek yogurt I didn’t like it. I’d tried a plain one. I would have been content to not ever have it again. It was way too tart and bleck for me. A friend persuaded me to try a flavored Greek yogurt, and that was much better.
Recently my whole family participated in a little tasteoff. That in and of itself isn’t the big deal. It’s the results that are the big deal. Shockingly enough, we all agreed on the answer. This doesn’t happen often, in fact it’s almost a mark it on the calendar moment.
The Greek Yogurt Tasteoff interested me because I figured we’d all have differing opinions, as usual. Four out of five people agree that Yoplait Greek 100 Strawberry Yogurt tastes better than Chobani Simply 100 Strawberry Yogurt. I accepted the challenge to take it just for fun, curious to see how our results compared.
Greek Yogurt Tasteoff Greek Yogurt Tasteoff
Upon opening the yogurts I noticed a difference. The Chobani was white while the Yoplait was pink. There was no sign of fruit upon opening the Chobani. I stirred both well. There was fruit on the bottom of the Yoplait. I may have seen literally 4 specks in the entire container of Chobani.  The Chobani basically remained white while the Yoplait just turned a darker pink.
Wanting to get into the true spirit of a tasteoff, I shuffled the yogurts around and then got out a blindfold. Or in this case a winter scarf. Hubby immediately questioned my motives, suggesting I either had something dirty in mind or I wanted to feed him something I knew he wouldn’t like. So I volunteered to go first.
Greek Yogurt Tasteoff
The two yogurts has a completely different taste. I found the Chobani to taste very bland and a tad bitter. I didn’t find it to have any strawberry taste whatsoever. My vote was Yoplait, no contest.
Then it was hubby’s turn.
Greek Yogurt Tasteoff
Hubby really got into things. He noted that the two yogurts not only had a completely different taste and color, but they also had a completely different smell. I smelled them too and he was right! (Geez I don’t like having to say that.) The Yoplait smelled good and the Chobani didn’t. He also voted for Yoplait.
Hubby was so perplexed that two “similar” products could taste so different that he did something he doesn’t often do. He read the list of ingredients of both yogurts.
Greek Yogurt Tasteoff
The labels on both yogurts indicate relatively similar nutritional content. Both have 100 calories per container. Chobani has 12 grams of protein, which is 2 more than the Yoplait. Chobani had fiber.
We had CJ take a turn. I didn’t want to blindfold him so I just put the two yogurts in front of him. I had him try a spoonful of both. Then I told him he could have more of whichever one he liked better.

His choice mirrored ours – Yoplait.

We all gave the Yoplait Greek 100 Strawberry Yogurt a big thumbs up, and agreed that it tastes better than Chobani Simply 100 Strawberry Yogurt.

  1. I really prefer the Yoplait version over the Chobani, although that’s good too. It depends on my mood. I like to add chocolate chips to mine for more flavor.

  2. I like Greek yogurt, especially because it has so much protein. I haven’t tried the Yoplait kind yet but it seems like I definitely need to!

  3. I notice the Chobani mentions “All Natural Ingredients”, is the Yoplait comparable? I didn’t see any mention of sweetener types in each one.

    1. Yes it is a different flavor the regular yogurt that’s for sure. If you prefer it bland you might like that Chobani, LOL

  4. What a coincidence! Not only am i eating a yoplait greek yogurt right now, but i made the switch just last weekend from plain yogurt to greek yogurt because of this challenge! I, too, had a horrible plain greek yogurt experience back when the fad first hit. Years later and ive given it a second chance, flavored varieties granted, and I’m in love!

  5. I’ve seen this challenge done a few other times and always Yoplait wins. Yoplait wins in my family as well! At this rate, Chobani may be going out of business!

Although I like the taste of non-Greek yogurt better (it’s sweeter), it doesn’t fill me as well as the thicker Greek varieties. I favor berry (haven’t found banana yet). No tasteoff here.

  7. How fun that you did it blindfolded, hahaha! Love this!
A 3-0 vote, that’s pretty good. I haven’t tried the other brand, but I do like Yoplait.

  8. I have tried both. Here’s the weird thing, the Chobani Greek strawberry that comes in the tubes? It tastes like the Yoplait. I love it. But in the cups? It tastes totally different and not like strawberries.

    1. I haven’t seen any Greek yogurt in tubes yet. I’ll have to look again next time I go to the store, I’m curious.

  9. We eat this almost every single day! We love the Yoplait version, although I never tried Chioponi yet! I love the pics:)
