First 49 Years Ford Mustang Ny
Last week I had the pleasure of going out to the Worlds Fair Grounds in Queens, New York for the celebration of Ford Mustang’s 50th birthday. I could have stayed there for days, maybe even weeks, looking at all of those gorgeous cars. There were over 100 Mustangs there, each one more beautiful then the last. Please join me in celebrating Mustang’s 50th birthday with a slideshow. For today, I give you models from Mustang’s first 49 years. (I’m saving the 2015 Mustang, the 50th anniversary model, for another post.) The slideshow contains pictures of some of the most beautiful, bad ass cars in the world, set to one of my favorite songs by the best band out there, Oleander. There’s been a connection between Mustang and Oleander in my life for years, so there was no question in my mind what music I wanted playing in this slideshow.

Thanks to Ford for bringing me out to New York to celebrate Mustang’s 50th birthday.
Thanks to Oleander for giving me permission to use the song “Never Too Late”. Much love and gratitude.

Do you prefer the look of older, more classic cars or the look of today’s modern cars? I’d really love to know, so please leave a comment!

  1. I would rather a newer looking car myself, but I know my Hubs likes the classic look of the older ones. All I really care about in a car is that it runs.

  2. I like the sound the 5.0 engines had, but I love the body style of the older Mustangs. That being said, I do like the new ones, I just have too many kids to justify owning one. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I had a baby blue convertible years ago, and man oh man, I loved that car.

    1. Robin – You’re right. I never thought cars would become collectible or I would have kept my 88 Mustang convertible.

  3. I cannot believe that the Mustang is 50 years old! I didn’t even realize how long it’s been around. I love seeing the older models compared to modern day editions.

  4. I am not that into cars but I think I definitely prefer the classic look. Especially with Mustangs. I like the classic ones so much better than the sleeker, newer ones.

  5. It depends on the car for me. I love the old Mustangs and I love the old Cougars. Partly it’s because my favorite Matchbox cars were that style. lol

    1. Liz – If I recall correctly my Mom had an old Cougar. I know she had a 73 Montego, so it would have been a few years before that.

  6. I love the classics. My grandfather worked for Chrysler for 30+ years and he redid cars himself at home. I remember he had a ’68 Thunderbird when I was young that I loved.

    1. Christina – Tbirds were actually my Dad’s favorite. He was a Ford mechanic for years, but he was a Ford guy even before that.

  7. I have always wanted a Mustang convertible, silver with black leather seats. It used to be I wanted a pink one, but silver is so much more mature ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Classic over modern any day. It wasn’t a classic back then when I learned to drive in a time where gas could be found for 20 cents a gallon. First cars always bring memories. Mine after using a couple of my father’s (ugh), was a platinum 60 Fairlaine 500. It was big, powerful, made of metal, without most of the add-ons.

  9. I prefer the old style mustang, late 60’s early 70’s. I have always been a sucker for muscle cars. My dad used to restore them, so I have a soft spot for the older styles.

  10. My 6 YO son is obsessed with Mustangs. He yells out every time he sees one, I guess he’s starting early. Those are beautiful cars.

    1. Debra, I have a 99 Mustang now. It’s actually not uncommon to have boys about your age stare at my car and say wow look at that. I had one young man approach me in a Wawa jist wanting to tell me I had “the coolest car ever”.

  11. I’ve never been too into cars. That said, there’s something about a classic car that’s tough to ignore! Love the vintage style!

  12. For the most part, I like the old muscle cars better. I used to own a 79 Pontiac Firebird and loved it! Of today, I really like the Chargers, and that is about it.

  13. The scratches were a little more difficult. Some of them were pretty deep. I sanded as much as I could, but I would have had to sand a lot of the wood away if I was going to get it as smooth as possible. I left it like this and thought it would work out okay.

  14. I love the old Mustangs and I love the old Cougars. Partly itโ€™s because my favorite Matchbox cars were that style. lol
