I know that a quality mattress plays a good part in getting good sleep. In our almost thirty years together, hubby and I have never had a brand new mattress. It’s something I dream about. Speaking of dreaming, a quality pillow is also a key factor when it comes to getting good sleep. Partway through August I received an Essentia Classic Memory Foam Pillow to try.

First, a bit about Essentia. Essentia makes more than pillows. They also make mattresses. As we all know, mattresses are the foundation (pun intended) of a good nights sleep. A Stanford University study conducted on players of the Stanford basketball team proves sleep drastically improved performance by over 10%. Essentia mattresses sleep on average 7 degrees cooler than other foam mattresses, which reduces tossing and turning. Essentia ProCor is the world’s first custom mattress for pro athletes. Essentia customizes the mattress through a proprietary evaluation process, which determines an athlete’s spinal alignment and muscle tension to build custom support for a deep, nourishing sleep. NHL Elite Strength and Conditioning Coach Andy O’Brien is so impressed that he recommends Essentia mattresses to all his athletes to maximize on their recovery. So, Essentia specializes in products that help people get quality sleep.
Back to the Essentia Classic Memory Foam Pillow. I traveled a lot during August and early September, so didn’t get a chance to actually check this pillow out until a few weeks ago. I’ve slept on it every night for about a month and now that some time has passed I wanted to share my thoughts.
The Essentia Classic Memory Foam Pillow starts with a 4″ thick molded base made of hevea milk, which is rubber tree sap. The memory foam is then wrapped in a thin layer of Bucaneve Wrap, which serves to protect the pillow from friction wear. Finally, the pillow is surrounded in Zebrano Fabric, which is an unbleached, breathable organic cotton cover exclusive to Essentia that is removable for easy cleaning.
I have slept on multiple pillows for years, because if the pillows are thin and flat I get very uncomfortable and my neck hurts. The Essentia Classic Memory Foam Pillow is 26 inches wide, 16.5 inches deep and 4.5 inches high. The height of the pillow was about as close to perfect for me as is possible. In the past my pillows have started to flatten somewhere between two and four weeks. Usually by the time four weeks has gone by the pillow seems noticeable softer and thinner. I held off on sharing my thoughts on the pillow until a month had gone by as I wanted to see how the pillow would hold up. I am thrilled to say that the pillow is just as tall and firm as it was the first day I used it.
The Essentia Classic Memory Foam Pillow takes a standard size pillow case and is very comfortable to sleep on. I don’t have to readjust my head for five minutes, searching for the right spot. The pillow has never felt exceedingly warm or hot to me, even in the hottest days of summer in the middle of August. Best of all, my neck hasn’t been aggravated by the pillow once since I started using it.
I will admit, the $219 price tag of the pillow would seem a bit daunting to me. But to be fair, if I replaced less expensive pillows four times per year it wouldn’t take very long to spend as much as one Essentia pillow costs. I am thoroughly enjoying the comfort of the pillow. I drift off to sleep quickly, where sometimes I dream of what it would be like to sleep on an Essentia mattress…..
Have you ever tried a memory foam pillow? What did you think?

Yes I have tried memory foam pillows and really love the way they support your neck and head for a good night’s sleep if it’s a good one. The pillow in your post looks particularly thick and comfy.
That sounds really comfortable! I always have trouble finding a pillow I like, so maybe this is the answer.
We have a few Essentia pillows and they have held up great. Ours is a little firm, and I find I don’t need to use 2 pillows to prop me up, when I use it.
I love memory foam mattress! And I love my memory foam pillow too!
I’d love to try out a memory foam pillow! I think they would be tons more comfortable than what I’m sleeping on now.
My bed is memory foam. I love it.
Funny, I was just looking at memory foam pillows today at Sam’s Club. My fear is that I’ll get too hot, but I guess I should try at least one.
I’ve been thinking about getting a memory foam pillow. They always feel so comfortable. I think I might need to get one now.
This sounds like a great pillow. A pillow is so important for proper sleep can make a huge difference in neck pain too.
I sleep with two memory foam pillows at night. I find that they are the best for my style of sleeping.
I totally love my memory foam pillow, and it’s the one I grab when taking road trips. This looks like a goodie!
I can only sleep with a memory foam pillow. It is such a comfy way to fall asleep!
Yes but its contour just didn’t work for me.
