Everyone in this house loves music, and my youngest is no exception. Recently his iPod dock broke, leaving him with just his iPod and headphones for sound. Considering how much he loves music, this could not continue. As I started looking around online to help me decide what I was going to get him, I learned about eKids and was offered the opportunity to review one of their items.
eKids, a distributor of cutting edge electronics in collaboration with Disney & iHome, now brings your favorite Disney characters to life on iHome’s award-winning and innovative audio products. We combined state-of-the-art technology developed by iHome with preeminent Disney characters such as Minnie Mouse, Phineas & Ferb, Kermit and Jack from the Nightmare Before Christmas. The result is a line of fashion forward speaker systems, alarm clocks, headphones, ear buds and iPod and mp3 docks that appeal to Trendsetters of all ages looking for quality electronics featuring iconic characters they love.
I chose to review the eKids CR-440 Lightning McQueen Vroombox.
The sturdy speaker system looks just like Lightning McQueen, much to my son’s delight. When he learned that one of his favorite characters from one of his favorite movies also played music from his iPod he was absolutely thrilled. Out of the box the unit operates on batteries. For me this was the one downfall, since music is a big thing around here. Then I learned that a power adapter is sold separately.
At the back of the car by the spoiler is a door that flips open to reveal a 30-pin iPod docking connector. This allows you to listen to music from your iPod and charge your iPod as well. The Lightning McQueen Vroombox will also work with any MP3 player via the line-in connection.
The on/off switch is near the windshield, which is also where you control your music. The buttons include power, play/pause, and volume controls.
The headlights actually work when the unit is playing music.
Here’s a very brief video showing you what the unit sounds like while playing and with the lights on. I shot this right after we opened up the box, after explaining to my son that it would play his music. It was my son’s first time hearing it, and you may hear by son saying “nice!” part way through, as I said he was thrilled with the speaker and the fact that he could listen to his favorite music through a speaker once more.
The sound is quite acceptable for a child’s system. You can actually turn it up pretty loud. It’s been nice hearing music coming from my son’s room again. He uses it often and is very happy about it. If you’re looking for a speaker system for your child, be sure to check out eKids.
What Disney character do you think your child might enjoy having on their headphones or speaker?

This is so cute and it looks so authentic and quality built. What a great way to display a useful product and make a room complete with Lightening McQueen.
What a fun product. What blows my mind is that kids even have these! “Back in my day” a child who was still interested in Lightning McQueen would not be old enough for technology. Crazy thought right? Although I totally embrace technology and would of course pick one of these up because- ka chow!
This is really cool and something my nephew would love! He has a Lightning McQueen bedroom set and I think a Lightning McQueen Vroombox would go great with his room decor. We’d probably get him the CD Vroombox though because he doesn’t own an iPod.
How cute is that? That is much cuter than my boring old dock. Thanks for the share.
That’s great! My kids would get a kick out of this, what a great idea gearing it to littler kids!
Girl grand kids princess of day of course; boy ones probably a Car; me Brer Rabbit of course.
