RIO SYNOPSIS
Feel the rhythm… hear the beat… and let your spirit soar with Rio. This high-flying animated comedy from the makers of Ice Age is fun for the whole family and features an all-star cast that includes the voice talents of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, George Lopez and Jamie Foxx.
Blu (Eisenberg) is rare domesticated macaw who believes he’s the last of his kind. But when his owner learns about Jewel (Hathaway), Blu’s female counterpart in Rio de Janeiro, they set out on the adventure of a lifetime. Even though he’s never learned to fly, Blu befriends a group of wise-cracking, smooth-talking city birds who help him find the courage to spread his wings and follow his destiny.
MY THOUGHTS
Simply put, I loved this movie! The music and the colors were all bold and bright. I really liked the storyline. In the beginning the poachers capture a bunch of birds in the Amazon rain forest, including a baby blue macaw. The macaw is shipped off to the US, where his crate falls off of the back of a delivery truck in Minnesota. A young girl named Linda finds him and adopts him as her pet, naming him Blu. They live and grow up together. Years go by and Linda is now a woman running a bookstore. Having spent all that time indoors, Blu has never learned to fly. Tulio, a bird specialist from Brazil, seeks out and finds Linda, telling her that Blu is one of two remaining members of the species and that she must bring Blu to Brazil so that he can be mated with Jewel, the other blue macaw. At first Linda resists but then decides to go because she thinks it’s the right thing to do. Once in Brazil, Blu is introduced to Jewel and they are left alone. Before they know what’s happening, the pair of macaws are taken by a birdnapping gang. While the pair are being held captive until they can be shipped out, Linda and Tulio search for them The pair escapes, happy to be free of the birdnappers but unhappy that they are chained together. The pair make friends with other birds while on a quest to break the chains that bind them, and start to have feelings for each other. Right after the chain is broken Jewel is recaptured by the birdnappers. Blu does his best to find her and finds Linda and Tulio in the process. It’s a race against time to get Jewel off of the birdnappers plane before it takes off!
