I like Doc McStuffins. It’s just a nice show. I love that theshow both encourges imagination like playing with stuffed animals, but also that it encourages a vision of real work and a place in the world, like being a doctor. Doc’s role model is her Mom, a doctor, and she wants to be like her. Doc plays with her toys and takes care of them, much like you and I did and now our kids do. Her patients all have a minor sickness or illness, there’s no scary disease. But what they do have that’s scary is the common apprehensions that we had and our children now have, things like fear of pain, seeing the doctor, stuff like that. This DVD is terrific for young kids, it’s very positive.
Here’s a film clip called The Doc Mobile.

And another film clip called Stay Calm.

I loved my stuffed animals. As a child I played with them constantly, talking to them, changing their clothes, and of course bringing some to bed with me when it was time to go to sleep. When I moved to New Hampshire for two years one of the few things that I brought with me was two large black trash bags of stuffed animals. I had a number of favorites over the years, but one of my all time faves was a very old Pooh (approximately 1970 if I had to guess) that my Mom gave me and I still have to this day. I still have a good number of them, I just can’t bear to let them go.

Did you (or does your child) play with stuffed animals a lot? I’d really like to know, please leave a comment!
