So not too long ago the blogging world learned that this year’s Disney Social Media Moms event was by invite only. I did not get the invite. Admittedly, I was a little bummed that I didn’t get an invite. When people said that their invite ended up in their spam filter, I checked my spam filter. No invite. I checked it again. And again. And mayve even a few times more after that. I remained a little disappointed, but not devestated. How could I not be disappointed? I attended the first two Disney Social Media Moms Celebrations and had an amazing time. The speakers were great, some even inspirational. But they weren’t what made the events amazing for me. Two things made the events amazing for me.
The first thing, above all else, was the great time that my family had, especially my youngest son. I come from a Disney family, we all grew up on Disney and love Disney. My parents still go several times a year. But things happened at each of the first two events that I will never happen. Mickey and Minnie stopping filming something in Epcot just to come to the side and see me son. That moment brought a huge grin to my son’s face and tears to my eyes. Minnie Mouse presenting a rose to my son. He beamed, again I had tears in my eyes. Watching my son dance with some of his favorite characters? Absolutely priceless.
The second thing, is the bloggers I got to meet. I’ve met bloggers that I’ve known online for years. I’ve met bloggers that I wasn’t familiar with. You can make a connection online that feels strong, but the connection you make in person is even better. I am so glad I got to meet bloggers such as Connie, Jennifer, Zippy and Lee to name a few, and consider them as friends, despite the distances between us.
Bloggers, do not allow the fact that you are not invited to any event, party, conference, celebration, or whatever you want to call it to cause you to doubt your value or your worth as a blogger just because you weren’t invited. We all have different things to say and different ways to say them. The blogging world is very diverse, and needs to be to have enough room for all of us. One event simply cannot hold us all. Missing one event is not the end of the world. Be happy for those that were invited, and be gracious. While I understand if you’re a little bummed if you weren’t invited, let’s celebrate that there are events like this at all for bloggers and that Disney recognizes the power of bloggers. That is all.
