Hard to believe that it is fifty years since a friend insisted I go to the movies to see Mary Poppins. Immediately Mary Poppins, perhaps Walt Disney’s crowning achievement became a favorite movie for me to enjoy time and time again. Mary Poppins is an extraordinary magical fantasy that blends animation, real life action, and music. I think it is an aesthetic joy and one of the greatest films of all times.
How many motion pictures do you know that can stand the test of time? Mary Poppins ‘s score, special effects, sets, scenario, and supporting cast remain as fresh today as they were in its initial 1965 release. Kudos to Dick Van Dyke for his role as chimney sweep Burt and (watch the credits carefully) Nackvid Keyd. Ed Wynn’s eccentric Uncle Albert is an uplifting, infectious laugh gem.
Brief Summary:
It is Victorian England, 1910. Mr. Banks advertises for an authoritative nanny for his children Jane and Michael. The children want a fun, kind-hearted, caring one. Sympathetic yet vain, calmly defiant Mary Poppins appears.
She takes the job until the wind changes, then firmly sets down rules. Best describe their adventures together tweaked with visual bits and gags as supercalifragilistexpialadocious.

I loved watching Mary Poppins as a child, it was one of my favorites! It’s the perfect time for it to be released on Blu-Ray with Saving Mr.Banks coming out!

You know we watch “A Christmas Story” every year on Christmas eve because it stands the test of time. My kids haven’t seen Mary Poppins yet, they are 2 and 4, but I definitely have to share the classics with them. We’ve gotten a few digitally recopied older movies on Blu-ray, I think its worth it!
I haven’t seen Mary Poppins in a loong time. I’m looking forward to watching it again when I can grab it on Blu Ray.
(REVIEW – Disney Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray) I remember seeing this movie for the very first time so many years ago. It is still a great classic to this day.
