I’ve mentioned a number of times before that I tend to do a lot of my shopping online. Part of the reason I do that is because it is convenient – no traffic and no crowds to deal with. No need to match my shoes. No bras! Another part of the reason I do it is because it can save time and money. No more schlepping around town from store to store to get the best bargains. My Grandma and Grandpa did that even with groceries and I never quite understood the reason why. There’s an old saying that time is money. It’s true. Driving from place to place consumes time and energy. That time could be better spent doing other things. Energy doesn’t just mean your physical energy, it also means the gasoline you use and wear on your car. Sure, something may be $2 cheaper across town, but is it really worth the $10 it will actually cost you to go shop there for that one deal? Not for me.
A Miami development group recently launched CouponMate. CouponMate is a browser extension designed to help you find the best online deals and coupons. Usually people do an internet search to find these, and they’re on many different sites. I always look for a coupon when shopping online. I will go as far as 10 pages deep in the search engine before I stop looking for a better coupon. It’s quite time consuming.
CouponMate collects them in the background and displays whatever they have available for that store right while you are on that site. CouponMate is easy to install, it only takes one click.
Once installed, the CouponMate browser extension just sits there quietly, doing its thing. You’ll see a small picture in the corner of your toolbar and a number. (In my browser it’s a red image with a blue number in the upper right corner.)Â That number is telling you how many deals it’s found for the site you’re on.
To see what the deals are just click and a dropdown appears with deals and coupons.
Browse the stores as you usually would. In this example I was on the Kohl’s site, looking at Cyber Monday luggage specials. I saw a special for a set for $59.99, it was regularly $299.99. Nice price! Truthfully being what I considered a pretty good Cyber Monday special I probably wouldn’t have even kept looking for a coupon. Fortunately for shoppers, CouponMate keeps looking anyway.
CouponMate found a 20% off discount. If you see a discount you want to use you click and it copies to your clipboard.
Once you find the product you want to buy you insert the coupon code that you have copied to your clipboard. When you check out you’ll see all of your savings.
That’s it!
There’s something else I liked about CouponMate. they’re very interested in hearing from users, on what is working, what isn’t working, and what would be helpful for the future. You just have to love a company that wants the user experience to be helpful and the priority. The reason the developers are focusing on the user experience is because they intend to keep developing and integrating new features so that they will be a go to source for finding coupons and deals over time.
CouponMate is currently only available for Google Chrome, a bummer for Firefox users like me. But I have been assured that Firefox and Safari versions will be available very soon, perhaps in as little as a week.
