“From the heartwarming text to the adorable illustrations of little kids dressed as animals, there’s so much to love about Mary Lundquist’s debut picture book, Cat & Bunny. Cat and Bunny. Bunny and Cat. It’s always been just the two of them—daydreaming, having adventures, playing their special game. Until the day someone else asks, “Can I play?” Mary Lundquist captures all the charm and magic of first friendship in her winning debut picture book.”
As spring approaches, the weather is starting to warm up a little here in Ohio. (For now!) We have had a few decent days but my little one came down with something. Stuck indoors, we have been doing a lot of reading, movies and coloring. Our latest good read is Cat and Bunny. Cat and Bunny is a cute story of friendship. They were best friends “born on the same day of the same month in the same year.” I thought the story was about an actual cat and bunny. Turns out, they are children in costumes. All the children are dressed as different animals. How adorable!
Cat And Bunny
Cat and Bunny do everything together. They play a special game everyday, that they only knew the rules to. They called it the made- up game. Everything changed one day when Quail asked if he could join the game. Cat was used to it being just them two and was unsure. Bunny gladly allowed Quail to play, and before Cat knew it, all the children were playing their special made-up game. Felling very left out, Cat runs off. Shortly after, Cat makes another friend and makes up a new game. Soon, all the children join in the new made-up game, including Bunny.
Friendship is hard at any age. Cat and Bunny send a great message about friendship. You can still be best friends, but allow others into your circle of friends.

Did you have a favorite made-up game as a child?

  1. I think my favorite made up game was when my sister and I would put on shows for a pretend audience. We loved to make dance routines.

  2. My sister and I used to play school and I would be the teacher and she was my student. I would teach her everything I learned each day school.

  3. My favorite made up “game” was playing with fisher price little people when I was a child.
