When a movie has Steven Spielberg as a director along with Tom Hanks and Alan Alda as actors you know that the movie is going to be one for the books. With a series of historic events as a backdrop comes “The Bridge of Spies”.
This movie tells the story of a Brooklyn lawyer, James Donovan (played by Tom Hanks) finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War. He must go on a nearly impossible mission decided by the CIA.
He has to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. The high stakes and suspense give way to a story inspired by true events that capture the backbone of a man who risked everything and distinctly brings his personal journey to life.
My husband loves history, and also enjoys Tom Hanks as an actor. I was able to enjoy the movie because to me although it is based on historic events, I could enjoy the plot and for me there was more to it than just history. I would recommend this movie as it is yet another great hit from Disney!
The Blu-ray comes with subtitles in French, Spanish as well as English. It is also dubbed in French. There are 2 discs included and the movie is rated a solid PG-13. I recommend you watch it first then decide if you feel it is appropriate for your children.
Here’s a clip from the movie.

  1. Allan Alda and Tom Hanks–that movie has to be a winner! I am not too much of a history buff but since I lived through the “cold war” (yeah I had to hide under my desk in drills) I probably would enjoy this.

  2. This indeed sounds like a movie I would enjoy seeing. I love this type period when this took place. I can’t wait to see this and I know my brother would love this one too.
