Film Synopsis
Disney returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh.” Featuring the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo – and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Ever have one of those days where you just can’t win, Eeyore?” asks Pooh. Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some honey. Disney’s all-new “Winnie the Pooh” movie is inspired by three stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art.

About The Music:
The amazing musical scores featured throughout the film were created by Tony® Award-winning songwriter Bobby Lopez, and his wife Kristen, who wrote all of the six spirited new songs for Pooh and his pals, including “The Tummy Song,” “A Very Important Thing To Do,” “Everything Is Honey,” “The Winner Song,” “The Backson Song,” and “It’s Gonna Be Great.” Lopez is behind the Broadway hits “Book of Mormon” and “Avenue Q” and together they’ve written for Nickelodeon and Disney, including the stage version of “Finding Nemo” and composed songs for several episodes of “The Wonder of Pets,” which earned him two Daytime Emmy® Awards in 2006 for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition.
The original score, a special rendition of the beloved “Winnie the Pooh” theme song for the film was composed by Henry Jackman (“The Da Vinci Code,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “Monsters vs. Aliens”) and sung by actress, musician, singer and songwriter, Zooey Deschanel (Indie folk band, “She & Him”). Deschanel also provided vocals for “A Very Important Thing To Do” and “So Long.”

MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of the Winnie The Pooh Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. It’s been cold, windy and rainy here at the Jersey Shore today so it was the perfect day to curl up under a blanket with my son and watch Winnie The Pooh. Not that any day isn’t perfect for watching Pooh – he is my favorite Disney character of all. We had a blast, neither one of us moving from our spots until the very end. This movie is a whole new story that we haven’t seen on tv or in movies before. Eeyore loses his tail. Pooh and all of the other characters decide to have a contest to see who can find Eeyore the best new tail. While searching for a tail, Pooh and friends come to the conclusion (Owl tells them so) that Christopher Robin has been taken by the Backson, a terrible monster. They set out to rescue him. Of course mayhem ensures, and it’s pretty funny! I found a lot of humor in this movie, probably more then any other Pooh animation that I’ve seen. Besides the quest to save Christopher Robin, Pooh is of course on his never-ending quest for more honey. The gang decides set a trap for the Backson.

So they set a trap, consisting of all of the Backson’s favorite things in a trail leading to a big hole. Who do you think ends up in the hole? Everyone except Piglet, who is expected to be a hero.
Here’s a clip called Relying On Piglet. The knot/nots had me laughing hysterically!
Owl flies up and gives Piglet a pep talk, then goes back into the hole. Noone realizes that he could and did get out! So funny! Piglet then rescues a balloon and encounters what he is certain is the Backson, and some fun balloon play follows. Everyone gets out of the hole. The perfect tail for Eeyore is found in the end, you’ll have to watch it for yourself to see what it is and where it was found. Be sure to watch all the way until the very end of the DVD, not just the end of the movie – there’s more fun in and after the credits. The bonus features are great, I especially enjoyed Winnie the Pooh and His Story Too as well as The Ballad Of Nessie. This movie is a must have!
