ABOUT PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES
From Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer comes all the fun, epic adventure and humor that ignited the original. Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. A tale of truth, betrayal, youth, demise — and mermaids! When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penélope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love or if she’s a ruthless con artist using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. Forced aboard the ship of the most feared pirate ever, Jack doesn’t know who to fear more —Blackbeard (Ian McShane) or the woman from his past. Directed by Rob Marshall, it’s filled with eye-popping battle scenes, mystery and all-out wit.

MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of The Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Blu-ray. I scrambled to watch the second and third movie earlier in the month, in preparation for this one. I enjoyed them but I had no need to rush as while this movie does tie in to the others, it isn’t fully reliant on them so you wouldn’t be completely lost if you hadn’t seen them. In this movie Jack has no ship, the Black Pearl is gone. He learns that an imposter is looking for crew to man a ship. While trying to learn who the imposter is he is captured and brought before the King. The King tells Jack he must help an expedition to find the Fountain Of Youth, and that it must be found before the Spanish find it. The expedition is being led by his enemy Barbossa. Jack escapes. Only during a duel with the imposter does Jack discover the imposter’s identity – his old flame Angelica, also feared pirate Blackbeard’s daughter. He’s forced to join Blackbeard’s crew in order to get to the Fountain. The journey to find the Fountain Of Youth is an interesting one. It turns out that Angelica is also the daughter of the feared pirate Blackbeard. Blackbeard has mystical powers that he uses to keep his crew inline and punish anyone that opposes him. It is learned that there is a ritual that must be followed in order to drink from the Fountain. Two people must simultaneously drink from two chalices that once belonged to Ponde de Leon. One chalice must contain a live Mermaid’s tear, the person that drinks from that chalice will have their life extended – while the other dies. A mermaid Syrena is captured by Blackbeard’s crew and mistreated while they try to obtain one of her tears, with the only kindness she receives being from a missionary Philip that Blackbeard has been holding captive. Philip and Syrena fall for each other. Syrena shed eventually a tear, after being tricked, and is left to die. They reach the Fountain Of Youth, followed shortly by Barboosa’s crew and then the Spaniards. Massive fighting ensues and the chalices are lost. Blackbeard is injured, as is Angelica and Philip. Blackbeard wants to drink the Fountain Of Youth in order to save himself from his injury and from his fated meeting with Barboosa. Syrena gives the chalices to Jack and then saves Philip. Angelica is willing to sacrifice her life to save her father. Jack switches the chalices without them knowing, killing Blackbeard and saving Angelica. He then leaves Angelica on a deserted island to be found by a passing ship, as he fears she will seek retribution against him for her father’s death. The movie ends with Jack trying to figure out how to restore the bottled Black Pearl to it’s regular size, which leaves room for another movie.
Here’s a trailer canned In Search Of The Fountain.
