MY THOUGHTS
I received an advance copy of the Gnomeo & Juliet Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack. I fell in love with this movie right in the beginning. Yes it does retell the tale of Romeo & Julie but in a whole different (and much better) way. It doesn’t follow the original exactly – this is a story with love and tragedy but it is a comedy and not just a love story or tragedy. Gnomeo the blue gnome (James McAvoy) meets Juliet the red gnome (Emily Blunt) and falls in love with her. The blue and red clans of gnomes are enemies, and everything is a competition including lawnmower racing. The couple cannot be seen publicly for fear of what their clanmates will say. Once the secret is out, both clans go to extremes to try and separate the two despite physical danger. The explosive ending was very suitable. The music was well done, fitting where it played in the movie perfectly. I found the story to be well written and really funny, I totally loved this movie and recommend it highly.
Here’s a clip called “Gnomeo Goes Stealth”.
