MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of the ET The Extra-Terrestrial Blu-ray Combo Pack. I’ve seen parts of it here and there over the years, in television broadcasts of the movie. I sat and watched this with my youngest. I forgot how much I enjoyed this movie, it’s happy, sad, heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. It is truly a classic. This was the first time my youngest son had seen the movie. As he is still very much a fan of animated shows and movies I didn’t expect him to enjoy ET. I was surprised to find that he did enjoy the movie. When he first saw ET on the tv screen he made his dinosaur type of growl and giggled. He wasn’t glued to the screen like when his animated shows are on, but he did remain interested to a point through most of the movie. In the movie the boy Elliott finds the alien, ET, after he has mistakenly been left on Earth. He befriends him and brings him home to hide him from the government agents that are hunting for him after his spacecraft was sighted. ET starts learning how to communicate by speaking limited English. ET and Elliott work on making a communication device so that ET can reach his people, which is where the phrase “ET phone home” comes from. Eventually Elliott’s brother and sister learn about ET. Both Elliott and ET get very sick. ET dies but comes back to life just in time to escape and try to go meet his people so that he can return home. The children help ET escape on bicycles, and when the authorities catch up with them ET lifts them all on their bicycles into the air, landing safely at the spaceship landing site. ET returns home after a tender farewell scene with Elliott.
Here’s a trailer.
