MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of The Odd Life of Timothy Green.The movie is about a couple, Cindy and Jim, that can’t have children. I’ve not mentioned previously (I don’t think), but it took us over ten years to conceive our oldest child. As someone who wanted children badly but just wasn’t having any at that point, I could totally relate to the position Cindy and Jim were in. As adults, those of us that want children develop ideas of what those children might be like. After discovering they definitely cannot have children, Cindy and Jim sit down and discuss what their child would have been like had they had one. They write all of those things down and put them in a box, which they bury in the garden. That night there is a storm and they receive a guest – Timothy. Timothy is a child that basically sort of adopts Cindy and Jim as his parents. They know nothing about him aside from the fact that he has leaves growing from his ankles. They take him in as their own, and move forward with their lives instead of mourning what could never be. Introducing and explaining Timothy’s presence to extended family members was funny, but sending Timothy to school was even funnier. Cindy and Jim are concerned about doing everything just right. The scene where they take Timothy to his first day at school is one of my favorites. “Have the day you have.”
I should mention that the movie is told in a series of flashbacks. Generally I am not a huge fan of this method of storytelling, but in this case it works exceptionally well. The story weaves back and forth from Cindy and Jim telling their story to people at an adoption agency to the story of Timothy, who affected everyone he came into contact with. You’ll have to watch the movie for yourself to find out the ending, but I can tell you it’s bittersweet.

The Odd Life Of Timothy Green has become one of my favorite Disney movies (non-animated) ever. The story is funny, sad, heart warming, silly and just perfect. I recommend it highly.
