MY THOUGHTS
I received a copy of the Peter Pan Blu-ray. I did watch Peter Pan as a child and looked forward to seeing it again as an adult. As a mother of two, I can relate to children who don’t want to grow up. There are days I think my 17 year old son doesn’t want to grow up. Heck, there are days I think my husband didn’t grow up, but that’s another discussion.
Peter Pan opens in London, pre-teen Wendy Darling’s parents want her to stop sharing a room with her younger siblings and get her own room because she’s growing up. One night, when her parents go out, Peter Pan arrives looking for his lost shadow. Peter Pan has never grown up. With the help of tiny Tinker Bell and her magical fairy dust, Peter Pan takes the children off to Neverland. Once in Neverland, the Darling children meet the Lost Boys, and the unsavory characters Captain Hook and Mr Smee. And you can’t forget the crocodile! The children have some amazing adventures, in places like the Indian Camp and the Mermaid lagoon. But in the end, the children decide it is indeed time to return home, where for a few minutes everyone, parents and children alike, are on the same page while watching peter Pan fly away.
Peter Pan is a classic because it’s all about imagination. People can do things they can’t in real life – like fly. They can go to places they’ve never been, or even that don’t exist – like Neverland. As with all Disney movies, there are a few songs. But in Peter Pan, the characters and storyline are what will stick with you for a lifetime.
