My oldest son uses his cell phone a lot. When he’s going to be out of the house for a good period of time he can frequently be found with a small backpack on, where he keeps his cell phone charger. I asked him why he did this once and he said he plugs his phone in to charge while he’s at friends. Recently I learned about a new product that would be the solution to his problem – a solar backpack.

The Birksun Boost Backpack may look like an ordinary backpack at first glance. It is far from ordinary. The backpack, which weighs 2.3 pounds, has a built-in USB outlet where you can charge smartphones and other USB devices. The backpack has a 15″ fleece laptop sleeve, organizational front pocket, and a neoprene organizer sleeve. If you’re wondering about the charging (or course you are), here’s the deal. The charging speed is one hour of sunlight equals 20% smartphone charge. I think that’s pretty good! Mom Knows It All contributing editor Lara’s hubby works nights at times. I asked them to check out the backpack and see what they thought.

My husband was very excited for a gadget to try. Inside the pouch is where the charger and battery storage unit to hook up your phone ipod, phone or other device. He loves that the solar panel charges the battery so he can still charge the phone at night. The backpack is of nice quality and has cushiony padded straps. Each pouch still has the normal backpack space plus in the inside pouch there is a place for your laptop or ipad. He takes it to work with him so he can charge his phone while hes working and brings his lunch in it. This backpack is definitely a great idea for camping or hiking.
The BirkSun Solar Backpack is available to purchase online and retails for $100. It would be a great gift for anyone that is on the go a lot, as well as hikers, campers, athletes, students, campers and just about anyone else.

I think the idea of this is great, especially hen traveling. My phone doesnt hold a charge for very long so this would be perfect for me.
I love the idea of this backpack. I would love to have Santa bring me one for Christmas this year.
This might be the coolest thing I have ever seen, and I need one right now. We spend so much time traveling and being outside at events, where my phone dies. Also this would be perfect for our hiking trips;
