Toilet Paper Dispenser
What exactly is the deal with toilet paper dispensers? You know, the kind you find in a public restroom. Did you ever notice that these things are not only made to be unfriendly, but they’re positioned poorly too. Basically a lot of people having a laugh at our expense, I think.
The positioning of the dispenser is done by a human being, obviously. Do they not take a seat before attaching it to the stall wall? Why is it that every toilet paper dispenser I’ve seen is positioned too low? Why can’t they positioned so it would a comfortable reach to get the paper, rather than having to more or less bend over while seated?
And about the paper. Could the people that make these things have been any crueler? I mean really. Usually the rolls are so tight and hard to move that if you pull to get toilet paper you end up with one square and then it rips. Sister, can you spare a square? Then the person in the next stall hears you pulling on toilet paper for what seems like forever, and either thinks you’re stealing it, stuffing your bra, use too much paper or have a gastro problem.
Obviously we all can’t boycott using them, because that would be a whole nother mess. I sometimes open the dispenser, so I can get toilet paper more than a square at a time. One of the happiest weeks at work was when the dispenser door broke and was stuck open. No problems getting tp that week.
Am I the only one with this problem? Do you hate public restrooms as much as I do because of these things?

  1. Lol, I don’t notice it being too low usually, but I’m really short so perhaps that’s why? The thinness IS ridiculous though. I usually shove my hand up into the machine so that my hand is on the top of the roll and then force the roll with my hand, so that it spins around a few times and releases a decent amount of paper. cause if you just try to pull it rips so many times, lol.
I also can’t stand how common it is for public restrooms to not have trash bins in the stalls. Do you honestly expect me to carry my tampon applicator or pad with me out near the sinks to use THAT trash? Um, no way in heck am I doing that. Sorry but i’m clogging your pipes instead. lol.

  2. oh my! I was laughing so hard reading this! But I completely agree!!
I hate having to bend over and squirm just to stick your hand under in the most awkward positions just to end up ripping off a tiny itsy bitsy piece of toilet paper!
Maybe this will spark a revolution! It will become standard practice for an installer to sit before they place the dispenser!
Thank you for the post, it helped lift my mood tonight!

  3. I’m not very tall and it’s difficult and painful for me to bend that low. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for a really tall person with a bad back.

  4. I JUST posted this very query on my facebook page! I came here hoping someone would have the answer, but alas…nobody knows. It makes no sense! Is there some RULE that says toilet paper must be unaccessible? Is to to save on paper? This drives me crazy. And don’t get me started on why the women’s toilet seats are all wet! What do these people DO? STAND on the seat to pee? And even, for the sake of argument, saying they do…WHY do they not wipe up after themselves? I give up. I’m holding it till I get home.

    1. The toilet paper is just so annoying. It;s always thin and always seems to come off only a piece, not even a square, at a time. just what I want to do, wipe myself with shredded paper!
I usually wait until I’m home or elsewhere rather than go in the store, but if you gotta go you gotta go. Of course, it doesn’t help that I’m worse than a dog marking their territory, nature seems to start ringing my bell whenever I enter a building.
I don’t know how sets get wet. I mean, I don’t sit down unless there are liners, if there aren’t I hover but I don’t pee all over the seat.

  5. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! It is surprising that so few have commented because it is a big problem. I do not like sitting in a restroom and TRYING to get paper out to wipe with. By the time the paper is out, I may have air dried by then! Am considering taking my own small roll and when it is gone, flushing the core down the toilet! ADA says that the toilet paper dispenser be 19″ from the finished floor. The toilet height should be 17-19″. So put your arm down and then try to reach UP to get the tight rolled paper that does not seem to be able to be broken to get a square in the first place!
